Postdoctoral Fellow – Catastrophe Risk and Insurance

Job Summary
The Postdoctoral Fellow will support the Institute for the Study of Catastrophe Risk and Resilience and the Greenberg School of Risk Management in advancing its research, education, and outreach mission. The Fellow will conduct independent and collaborative research on catastrophe risk management, risk mitigation and financing, and insurance solutions, and contribute to the organization of conferences and seminars. The Fellow will also teach one introductory course in Risk Management and Insurance.

Job Responsibilities
· Conduct independent and collaborative research on catastrophe risk management and insurance practices.

· Produce high-quality working papers, journal articles, and practitioner-oriented publications.

· Assist with organizing academic-industry conferences, micro-conferences, and research seminars.

· Support student engagement through supervision of research assistants, and involvement in curricular enhancement.

· Participate in community and industry outreach efforts to strengthen partnerships and disseminate research findings.

· Maintain an active online presence for the Institute through contributions to its website and digital platforms.

· Teach an Introductory Risk Management and Insurance course.

Other Duties
· Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned as needed to support the mission of the Institute, the Greenberg School, and the Tobin College of Business.

Competencies, Education, Experience
· Strong research skills in economics, finance, insurance, risk management, actuarial science, or related fields.

· Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and with industry partners.

· Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

· Strong organizational and project management abilities.

Required Education and Experience:
· Ph.D. in economics, finance, risk management and insurance, actuarial science, or a closely related field (completed by the start date).

· Demonstrated research expertise in catastrophe risk management, insurance, or resilience-related areas.

· Significant data analysis and computer programing skills, e.g., Python, R.

Preferred Education and Experience:

· Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration and applied research.

· Experience organizing academic conferences, workshops, or seminars.

· Teaching or mentoring experience at the university level.

Work Environment

· Operates in a professional office environment. This position is required to use standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

· Full-time, 12-month appointment, renewable for up to two or three years, subject to performance and funding.

· Typical schedule aligns with standard academic calendar; flexibility required for conferences, seminars and events.

Travel

· Occasional domestic and international travel to conferences, seminars, and research meetings.
