We are currently seeking an experienced Transportation Engineer with great technical and communication skills and project coordination experience in projects related to transit, traffic operations, traffic safety, and traffic studies to join our Toronto office.
This team is a part of our Roads and Highways Business Area. We partner with our clients across the globe to design thriving and connected cities and communities that enable opportunity for all and keep the world moving. Climate change, urbanization and digitization trends are requiring today’s mobility projects and systems to address an evolving set of demands from the world’s growing population. We design connected, sustainable solutions that integrate existing infrastructure with new technologies, and optimize the mobility of people and goods.
We are looking for candidates with demonstrated experience on complex traffic engineering projects. Notable experience should include a role completing traffic staging design of arterial roads and higher order transit. The ideal candidate will have experience working with provincial, regional, and municipal jurisdictions.
Role accountabilities:
In this role you will lead and/or assist the manager with analysis and design efforts in road safety, traffic operations, and design of traffic operations devices and facilities. You will prepare traffic and transportation studies associated with transportation, transit, land development, and infrastructure projects, prepare technical reports to address traffic issues, prepare presentations and prepare client communications and lead small projects/tasks independently. You will review project documents prior to submittal, including checking for technical accuracy, assist with transportation group project management and business development and make a positive contribution to the overall team culture and environment. You will use judgment to identify and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems. You will work with other engineering groups/disciplines and technical specialists to develop full design packages and prepare and maintain client communications and prepare presentations.
This candidate will have effective organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage concurrent priorities, strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills and be task oriented with excellent interpersonal skills that focus on meeting customer requirements. You will have excellent oral and written communication skills, a commitment to excellence and high-quality work with a strong attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to work independently as well as in diverse groups of project team members and clients.
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's University Degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering, Professional Engineer with PEO
8+ years of related experience including traffic operations, road safety, municipal infrastructure, and roadway design experience at increasing levels of responsibility, preferably with Ontario Municipal Road authorities
Progressive experience in project management and business development including responding to RFPs
A solid understanding of specialized traffic assessment software and capacity analysis (Synchro, AutoTurn, etc.)
Experience with meso- and micro-simulation modelling (VISUM, VISSIM, AIMSUN, Vistro) considered an asset
Experience with working with City of Toronto, MTO, or other municipal guidelines for traffic impact analysis
Experience in the application of OTM Books guidance, particularly the OTM Book 7
Proficiency in developing and reviewing traffic staging and traffic control plans
Experience in parking policy review, or civil design considered an asset
Proficiency with MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D
Excellent analytical and decision-making skills, with a commitment to excellence and high-quality work
Proven technical writing skills in English with strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Proven ability to communicate difficult concepts and persuade others to adopt a different point of view
Experience preparing material for and facilitating meetings with technical agencies and the public
Ability to be flexible and collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team, while maintaining quality work within a fast-paced environment.
Experience includes applying and interpreting related legislation and technical documentation including the ITE Trip Generation Manual, TAC Geometric Design Guide, the Ontario Traffic Manuals, and the Ontario Highway Traffic Act
