Position Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Senior Program Manager, the Prevention and Intervention Program Director directs the day-to-day activities of the prevention and intervention program, which operates in elementary, junior high, and high schools in assigned districts. Attendant activities include supervision of program staff, community collaboration, staff development and training, and responsibility for the OTPS budget of the program. Performs related work.

Reports to: Senior Program Manager

Direct Reports: SAPIS Workers – Level III and itinerants

Key Relationships: The Program Director works closely with the OSPP counseling support team, Superintendents’ Offices staff, including youth development and safety personnel.

Responsibilities

Directs the day-to-day activities of the prevention and intervention program, which operates in selected elementary, junior high, and high schools.
Assigns staff to provide services to schools based on the prioritization of needs.
Supervises program staff, including field staff, which includes Substance Abuse Prevention and Intervention Specialist (SAPIS) workers – Level III’s and itinerants.
Monitors the provision of school-based school services and tracks the progress and delivery of services. Conducts monthly supervisory meetings with SAPIS Level III’s.
Participates in monthly Director’s Meeting, professional learning sessions as scheduled by the Senior Program Manager.
Participates in staff recruitment; designs and provides staff development and training activities. Conducts formal and informal staff observations, including pre and post observation conferences.
Develops proposals for their assigned districts’ OTPS budgets.
Develops and maintains internal data collection and reporting systems. Uploads documents into shared folders on an ongoing basis, i.e. observations of data trackers, etc.
Communicates with school payroll secretaries regarding SAPIS timekeeping matters.
Serves as a resource to principals for the purpose of providing prevention program guidelines and support.
Participates in professional development around OASAS approved curriculum and turnkey, as needed.
Conducts ongoing research to stay abreast of current literature, methodologies, and treatment modalities in the fields of alcohol and/or substance abuse, child abuse, and the provision of services for children at risk.
Prepares and disseminates information on these topics to principals and other appropriate staff.
Represents the NYCPS in activities with professional organizations, including workshops, task forces, hearings, and coalitions.
Establishes and maintains linkages with mental health, alcohol and drug abuse treatment agencies, referral agencies, and community action groups.
Creates and supervises annual workplans for the borough.

Qualification Requirements:

Minimum

Applicants must possess a valid New York State certificate in School Administration/Supervision (SAS), School District Administrator (SDA), School Building Leadership (SBL), or the Administrator Certificate. We do not accept internship certificates.

Preferred

Exceptional communication, organizational, and project management skills.
Superior ability to manage and administer large scale initiatives.
Knowledge of NYCPS policies and procedures regarding substance abuse prevention education.
Superior skills in staff development, curriculum development, and proposal writing.
Ability to supervise and administer a program that is borough wide in scope.
5 or more years of program management/supervision experience.
Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a demanding environment.
Effectiveness in the field of prevention and intervention.

Salary: $132,257 + Director of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Differential ($28,842)
