Job Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Provost of Institutional Research (IR), the role will provide technical support to Office of Institutional Research. The Institutional Research Technical Assistant supports the Office of Institutional Research by assisting with data collection, analysis, reporting, and maintenance of institutional data systems. This role contributes to evidence-based decision-making by ensuring data accuracy, producing reports, and supporting research initiatives related to student outcomes, institutional effectiveness, and compliance. This position will assist with the day-to-day operations of the office.
Job Responsibilities
Create, maintain, and document innovative and user-friendly reports, dashboards, and visualizations for operational and analysis needs of IR to inform strategic planning and policy development.
Cleanses, transforms, and validates data from a wide variety of sources.
Be a liaison with IT to develop new and innovative tools to keep IR on the cutting edge and operational efficiency
Maintains existing reporting workflows, offering improvements where necessary.
Ensure data integrity, accuracy, and consistency across institutional systems.
Assist with preparation and dissemination of reports and presentations as needed.
Monitor Institutional Research’s email account and disseminating data and other requests as appropriate in a timely manner.
Assist in maintaining the IR website and in educating colleagues on the uses of institutional research and data in general.
Represent the IR office and university by serving on various campus committees and through participation in external groups.
Monitor data quality and identify discrepancies or inconsistencies.
Support requests for data and information from campus stakeholders.
Ensure compliance with data privacy, security policies, and ethical standards.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Data Analytics, Education Administration, Social Sciences or equivalent work experience
1–3 years of related professional experience working with data analysis, reporting, or administrative systems
Knowledge of databases and querying (e.g., SQL).
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling data.
Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information.
Proven performance with Microsoft Office 365 applications with specific knowledge of Excel and experience with Adobe Acrobat
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree preferred
Experience in higher education, institutional research, or a related field.
Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
Experience with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, Python).
Knowledge of student information systems (e.g., Banner, PeopleSoft, Workday).
Experience supporting survey tools (e.g., Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey).
Understanding of higher education reporting requirements and metrics (e.g., IPEDS).
Exposure to data governance and data management best practices.

Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printers, etc.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; bend and stretch to file documents. The employee must work on a computer.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time positionon the Queens campus. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30a.m.to4:30 p.m.
Travel
Travel is primarily local and may include visits to the other NY campusesor to local institutions for occasional meetings.
