Job description
Axios is hiring an SVP, Product to lead how Axios builds products across the company, strengthening Product and Design while turning promising AI-enabled ideas into durable, supported products.
Why it matters: Axios builds and ships at multiple levels. Product and Design lead the development of durable, company-wide products and shared platforms. AI Enablement partners with departments to identify opportunities, prototype AI-enabled tools and workflows, and help teams put useful solutions into practice.
The SVP, Product will connect these levels by making decision rights, prioritization, and handoffs clear: what should remain a local workflow, what AI Enablement should support, and what Product and Design should develop into a durable, supported product or shared capability. The role spans the products, platforms, and workflows that power Axios, from the CMS, axios.com, newsletters, and Local products to internal tools and shared platforms supporting editorial, revenue, and company operations, as well as the growing set of AI-enabled solutions being developed closer to the work.
As Axios becomes more capable of building with AI, more teams will identify and prototype solutions for their own needs. Reporting to the CTO, this leader will establish the product operating model that allows Axios to evaluate, prioritize, and scale those ideas without creating fragmented, duplicated, or unsupported systems.
What you’ll do:
Lead Product, Design, and AI Enablement, setting strategy, priorities, decision rights, and operating cadence.
Look ahead: turn a clear point of view on emerging technologies, behaviors, and opportunities into credible product choices and experiments.
Partner with business leaders to translate company and functional goals into clear product opportunities, outcomes, and investment choices.
Raise the product management bar through clear expectations, coaching, and accountability.
Create a clear path from promising experiments to durable, supported products.
Go deeper: This leader must be a trusted partner to the CTO and senior leaders, with a clear point of view on where technology is moving, the confidence to challenge assumptions, and the judgment to turn ambiguity into decisions.
Success means a clear company-wide model for deciding what Axios should build and why, stronger and faster Product and Design decisions, and a repeatable path from promising AI experiments to durable, supported products.
What we’re looking for:
A trusted partner to senior leaders who can challenge assumptions, form a clear point of view, make hard tradeoffs, and keep decisions moving.
A clear vision for where product development is headed and how Axios can succeed as the technology landscape rapidly evolves.
Demonstrated AI fluency: you personally use AI to accelerate your work and prototype ideas, and you know how to turn AI capabilities into useful products and workflows.
Senior product leadership experience in software, information services, media, or another fast-moving environment, with a record of bringing Product and Design together.
Technical fluency across product strategy, workflows, tooling, data, and production tradeoffs.
Experience with prioritization and portfolio management across multiple stakeholders.
A track record of turning prototypes and experiments into durable, supported products.
The judgment to create useful governance without becoming a bottleneck.
The ability to distinguish a meaningful product opportunity from an interesting AI demo.
