Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Community Support Worker Position Overview

A caring and reliable Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Community Support Worker is needed to provide one-on-one assistance to an individual in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

The primary focus of this position is to provide day-to-day support, companionship, and encouragement while helping develop greater independence and organizational skills. The ideal candidate is patient, responsible, supportive, and comfortable assisting with practical daily living activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with daily routines and activities.
• Provide support with grocery shopping and meal preparation.
• Help develop and strengthen organizational skills.
• Encourage greater independence with everyday responsibilities.
• Support the development of independent living skills.
• Assist with basic money-management skills.
• Help create, organize, and follow a personal budget.
• Provide companionship, encouragement, and positive reinforcement.
• Help establish and maintain productive daily routines.
• Encourage the individual to complete tasks as independently as possible while providing appropriate support.
• Assist with community-based activities and errands as needed.
• Maintain professional and respectful communication with the individual and support team.

Qualifications

• Caring, patient, responsible, and dependable.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Comfortable providing one-on-one support.
• Ability to encourage independence rather than completing every task for the individual.
• Comfortable assisting with grocery shopping, meal preparation, budgeting, and other everyday activities.
• Previous experience as a DSP, community support worker, companion, mentor, caregiver, or similar role is preferred.
• Reliable and able to consistently maintain the required schedule.
