Direct Support Professional (DSP) Position Overview

A caring, motivated, and dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP) is needed to provide one-on-one companionship and support to an adult individual with an intellectual disability in Boro Park, Brooklyn.

The DSP will spend time with the individual while providing companionship, encouragement, and support with life skills. The goal of the position is to promote independence, social engagement, and overall quality of life in a positive and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one companionship and support.
• Engage in appropriate social and recreational activities.
• Encourage the development and practice of everyday life skills.
• Promote independence with daily activities and routines.
• Help strengthen social, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Encourage participation in meaningful and enjoyable activities.
• Provide positive reinforcement, motivation, and encouragement.
• Help the individual build confidence and greater independence.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.
• Communicate appropriately with family members and the support team.
• Provide consistent and dependable support during scheduled hours.

Qualifications

• Caring, patient, responsible, and dependable.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Comfortable providing one-on-one support to an adult with an intellectual disability.
• Ability to encourage independence while providing appropriate assistance.
• Positive, engaging, and supportive personality.
• Reliable and able to maintain a consistent schedule.
• Previous experience as a DSP, companion, mentor, caregiver, paraprofessional, or in a similar support role is preferred but not required.
