Direct Support Professional (DSP) Position Overview

A family in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a caring, energetic, and dependable Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide companionship and support to an individual during afternoons, evenings, and Sundays.

The primary focus of this role is to provide positive social interaction, recreational activities, and encouragement toward greater independence. The ideal candidate is engaging, patient, active, and enjoys participating in sports, games, and other recreational activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Spend quality one-on-one time with the individual.
• Engage in sports, games, and recreational activities based on his interests.
• Plan enjoyable and appropriate activities during scheduled hours.
• Encourage independence with everyday activities and routines.
• Help build confidence and reinforce positive decision-making.
• Encourage social interaction and participation in activities.
• Provide companionship and a consistent, supportive presence.
• Promote the development of age-appropriate independent living and social skills.
• Encourage physical activity and an active routine.
• Maintain appropriate communication with the family regarding activities and progress.
• Provide support in a patient, respectful, and encouraging manner.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a DSP, mentor, companion, paraprofessional, caregiver, or similar support role is preferred but not required.
• Energetic and comfortable participating in sports and games.
• Patient, encouraging, responsible, and dependable.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to build a positive and supportive relationship.
• Comfortable encouraging independence while providing appropriate support.
• Reliable and able to maintain the scheduled hours consistently.
