Job description

Who we are
You know those big cities that still feel like small towns? Where everyone’s friendly and helps each other out? That’s like Doane Grant Thornton. Except here we’re all professionals and there isn’t a mayor or a general store. What we’re trying to say is that we’re a large and growing professional services firm that still feels like a community. We employ about 3000 people across Canada, and we truly care about our colleagues, our clients and the communities where we work and live. That’s what’s most important to us. We’re building a thriving organization that’s purpose driven and still want to remember what your favourite milkshake flavour is.

Our Advisory Services practice is looking for a Senior Associate to join our Transaction Advisory Services (TAS) team. The TAS team provides financial due diligence and transaction advisory services to middle-market private and public businesses across Canada and internationally. We work with private equity firms, strategic buyers, lenders, and business owners to support mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other strategic transactions.

You will play an integral role on client engagements by supporting and leading financial due diligence projects, analyzing financial and operational performance, identifying key business drivers, and assisting clients in evaluating transaction opportunities.

As a highly motivated professional, you will be expected to collaborate with other members of the TAS team on buy-side and sell-side due diligence engagements, quality of earnings analyses, working capital assessments, and other transaction-related advisory services.

As a Senior Associate, Transactions your responsibilities will include
• Execute buy-side and sell-side financial due diligence for financial and corporate strategic buyers from a variety of industries, including manufacturing and distribution, food & beverage, technology, business services, etc.
• Prepare Microsoft Excel based Analysis Packs (also referred to as Databooks) including preparing data (general ledgers, trial balances, and sales data), performing reconciliations, and ensuring integrity of data
• Undertake data analytics (using Analysis Pack, Tableau and other analytic software) to support quantification of transaction metrics (Adjusted EBITDA, Adjusted Working Capital, Net Debt, etc.) and derive insights on key trends and drivers of financial performance
• Actively participate in client meetings and site visits with owners and key executives to gather financial information and insights
• Write financial due diligence reports containing insightful analysis to support users of financial diligence report (clients, potential buyers, lenders and other decision makers) in making decisions with respect to the transaction and post-transaction integration
• Pro-active, timely and collaborative communication to gather information and project management with deal
team members including colleagues, clients, targets and other deal participants
• Involvement in other Transaction engagements and group administrative duties including but not limited to preparation of engagement letters, presentations for prospective clients, project management, etc.

At Doane Grant Thornton, you’ll work with inspiring leaders who support your development, both personally and professionally. This is a place where your insatiable curiosity enables you to think, see and hear from a variety of perspectives, a place where every day is different and having the courage to grow is part of who you are. And when all this comes together, well that’s when the magic happens!
