PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
CPC Education and Career Services (ECS) provides dynamic programs and activities that bridge youth and adults with their highest educational, economic, and leadership potential. ECS believes it is never too early or too late to start learning, which is why we use an asset-based approach to maximize clients’ current strengths. Whether in our schools, community centers, or internship sites, ECS creates equitable learning environments that promote leadership development, self-advocacy, and community building. Our programs equip clients with essential skills and experiences today so that they are empowered to take the next step tomorrow.
Learn and Earn (L&E): Program provides work readiness skills training, college access support, leadership development, and summer internship/employment opportunities for youth in their junior and senior year of high school. Youth are equipped with the experience and skills necessary to make a successful transition into adulthood and are empowered to become stronger advocates for themselves and their communities.
Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP): Funded through the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides New York City youth between the ages of 14 to 24 with paid, summer work experience and project-based learning opportunities for up to six weeks in July and August. Participants work in entry-level positions across a variety of sectors and industries, and are provided with workshops on job readiness, career exploration, financial literacy, continuing education, and other life.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Youth Development Coach will:
Act as a liaison between CPC, worksites / industry partners, and funding agency.
Assist and guide high school students with their short- and long-term goals, whether it be academically, financially, or professionally.
Coplan and facilitate social-emotional learning, interactive project-based learning, career-readiness, college readiness, and basic life-skills workshop relating to holistic youth development.
Provide individualized guidance and counseling, and case management services; enter participant case notes and track progress, including services received.
Assist with recruitment, enrollment, and retention of program participants.
Maintain participant files/programmatic documents and track attendance, progress, and outcomes.
Coordinate the scheduling of guest speakers, community service opportunities, and field trips (e.g., college visits, recreational activities) within program guidelines.
Establish and develop new partnerships with variety sectors and industries and maintain ongoing relationships with existing partnerships.
Streamline an effective process in recruitment, enrollment and job placement.
Planning and facilitation of work readiness training, interactive project-based learning workshops, and program orientation.
Comply with all DYCD policies and administrative procedures.
Provide support and/or troubleshooting to program-related inquiries.
Perform weekly assessments with worksites; survey and evaluate participants and worksites.
Assist with program audits, closeouts, and site visits administered by DYCD.
Attend staff meeting and professional development training as required by CPC and DYCD.
Assist with administrative aspects of the SYEP program with data entry, compiling, filing, and organizing and maintaining worksites and participants folders (hard copy or digital)
Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required; degree in education, social work, counseling, or related field preferred.
A minimum of 2 years’ experience working within the field of youth and/or workforce development. Prior experience working with High School youths and families is preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong work ethic and demonstrated passion for youth development.
Must be culturally competent and provide services in a sensitive manner to participants’ culture heritage and traditions, life experience, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of MS office applications and virtual platforms such as Zoom, Teams, and Webex.
Working knowledge of Canva or Adobe Creative Cloud applications are a plus.
Willingness to travel to worksites via public transportation.
Bilingual; fluency in English and any of the following languages Arabic/Chinese/Spanish.
