About AJMA

The American Jewish Medical Association (AJMA) is the only nationwide U.S. organization dedicated to strengthening Jewish life, community, and identity in healthcare. We support Jewish healthcare professionals, physicians, students, and trainees across medicine, nursing, public health, mental health, dentistry, and allied health, while advocating for safety and dignity in the face of rising antisemitism and antizionism.

AJMA is growing and built around its members. As we grow, we are looking for a professional who can help us reach more Jewish healthcare professionals, deepen relationships with those already connected to AJMA, and create a strong and engaged membership community.

Position Overview

AJMA is seeking an outgoing, organized, and relationship-oriented professional to help grow and engage our national membership.

The Membership Growth & Engagement Coordinator will focus on recruiting new members, engaging and retaining existing members, and building relationships with Jewish healthcare professionals and students. The role includes direct outreach, member communications, events, and relationship-building with healthcare institutions, Jewish Employee Resource Groups (JERGs), medical schools, and community partners.

While primarily remote, this is an outward-facing role that requires regular in-person engagement in the community.

Key Responsibilities

Membership Growth, Engagement & Recruitment
Recruit prospective members through direct outreach, referrals, events, partnerships, and AJMA programs.
Welcome and engage new members and connect them with relevant AJMA opportunities.
Support membership renewals and re-engagement of members who have become inactive or lapsed.
Maintain regular contact with members and prospective members and respond to membership inquiries.
Support AJMA’s Member Advisory Council and other opportunities for member involvement.
Community & Institutional Outreach
Build relationships with JERGs, hospitals and health systems, medical schools, Jewish organizations, and other community partners.
Engage students, trainees, and healthcare professionals through in-person and virtual outreach.
Attend relevant healthcare, student, and Jewish community events to represent AJMA and develop prospective-member relationships.
Events & Member Communications
Coordinate and support member, networking, student, and community events, including outreach, registration, logistics, and follow-up.
Produce weekly member emails, monthly newsletters, event invitations, and other member communications.
Develop targeted communications supporting recruitment, engagement, and renewal.
Help identify member stories, resources, programs, and opportunities to share with the AJMA community.
Membership Administration & Tracking
Maintain accurate member and prospect information in AJMA’s membership, CRM, and email systems, including ongoing updates for AJMA leadership.
Track membership inquiries and metrics, prospective members, renewals, event participation, and outreach.
Follow up on administrative membership issues, including incomplete registrations, lapsed memberships, and payment or credit card failures.

Qualifications
2–5 years of professional experience, preferably in membership, sales, business development, recruitment, community engagement, communications, customer success, or a related field.
Strong interpersonal skills and confidence engaging with new people.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and reliable with strong follow-through.
Comfortable using databases, email platforms, and other digital tools to track relationships and engagement.
Able to work independently in a primarily remote environment and as part of a small, collaborative team.
Interest in AJMA’s mission and strengthening Jewish community within healthcare.
Healthcare, Jewish communal, association, or nonprofit experience is helpful but not required.

Location & Work Environment

This is a full-time, primarily remote position with preference for candidates based in or near Boston, Hartford, or Washington, DC. The role requires regular in-person engagement with members, prospective members, institutions, and community partners, as well as periodic evening events and travel.
