Position Summary:

As an integral IHI team member and organizational leader, the Senior Project Director is responsible for driving successful planning and execution of projects as well as developing and presenting content in a focused area. The Senior Project Director builds and fosters meaningful, effective relationships with customers, funders, partners, teams, and individual staff members to achieve IHI’s mission and develop the next generation of leaders.

IHI is building a pipeline of experienced US-Based Senior Project Directors for future opportunities. We seek leaders with expertise in driving improvement and transformation across health care systems and communities.

Position Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Project Leadership

Oversee the strategic direction and performance of a portfolio of projects ensuring alignment with organizational goals
Monitor the progress of multiple projects, providing guidance and resolving escalated issues or risks
Serve as a mentor and escalation point for PDs, helping manage complex stakeholder relationships by being an expert presence when needed
Ensure appropriate resource allocation across projects, resolving conflicts and addressing resource gaps
Develop and oversee comprehensive risk management plans, ensuring effective resolution of critical challenges
Conduct regular performance evaluations of PDs and projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and client satisfaction
Establish and maintain quality assurance processes across the project portfolio, driving continuous improvement
Approve significant change requests and guide PDs in implementing project adjustments
Ensure smooth transitions of deliverables from projects to operational teams, facilitating post-project evaluations

Content Development

Acts as a sounding board and escalation mechanism for deliverables that are more complex or need review

Business Development

Collaborate with the VPD to refine business development strategies, providing input on client needs and opportunities to expand organizational impact
Drafting initial proposals for RFQs, RFPs, and grant applications, ensuring alignment with client needs and organizational priorities

People Leadership

Supervise and mentor Project Directors, providing strategic guidance, regular feedback, and professional development opportunities
Resolve escalated team challenges, addressing conflicts or resource gaps to maintain team effectiveness and morale

Position Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Deep expertise in public health, health care systems, or population health, with experience applying industry best practices and QI methodologies across multiple projects
Advanced knowledge of how to leverage project management frameworks to ensure work across portfolios are completed with consistent quality standards and efficiency
Proven ability to apply QI methodologies in multiple projects, mentoring teams in their use
Ability to the development of complex technical reports and proposals, ensuring alignment with customer priorities, as well as industry standards and regulations
Expert level knowledge and ability to adapt communication style to various audiences, balancing professionalism and empathy
Strong ability to integrate knowledge of all elements, including business impacts and project management, into proposal and other business development efforts
Advanced leadership skills that support a supervision like providing mentorship, performance management, and leadership development
Ensure consistency and strategic alignment in project deliverables across teams, mentoring PDs in best practices
Advanced skills in building and maintain sustainable relationships through all phases and experiences with IHI
Strong ability model and their skills in the use storytelling, data visualization, and interactive techniques to drive decision-making and build consensus
Ability to translate strategic priorities into actionable initiatives
Highly practiced skills in managing multiple priorities, deadlines, and resource allocations across multiple projects
Ability to model and support appropriate level of detail orientation consideration within project execution
Can guide teams in problem-solving and proactive risk mitigation, ensuring projects stay on track
Skilled in cross-functional collaboration efforts, ensure knowledge-sharing and alignment across teams
Accountable for overseeing project teams, ensuring projects meet client expectations and strategic goals

Position Qualifications:

Required

Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent experience 
5-10 years of experience leading teams and/or managing direct reports, ideally in consulting or a related field
2+ years of formally applying Quality Improvement (QI) methodologies and frameworks
Preferred

*5+ years of experience within:
Health care delivery systems (i.e., clinical, administrative, quality, safety, etc.)
OR
Population Health related organization/role, including experience in health equity, population and public health, or other health related settings
*Advanced Degree, certification, or medical licensure in relevant field
Experience contributing to business development through proposal development or strategic relationship building
