Job description
For 100 years, Camp Tawonga has been a leader in Jewish camping, offering educational and recreational programs for children, adults and families that build self-esteem, inclusive community, lifelong friendships, connection with nature and positive Jewish identity. Programs run in the summer and year-round at a residential campsite next to Yosemite National Park and across the Bay Area. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO provides strategic, operational and financial leadership, partnering with a senior leadership team to sustain the excellence of Tawonga's summer camp and year-round offerings. The CEO serves as Tawonga's chief ambassador across the Bay Area Jewish community, philanthropy sector, alumni network and national partners. Responsibilities: • Translate the 2025-2030 Strategic Plan into measurable outcomes and long-term stability • Expand philanthropic support, enrollment and engagement, including major gifts and foundation relationships • Oversee the operating budget, financial management, internal controls and cash flow • Provide visible leadership during the summer season and ensure a safe, secure camp • Advance campus and infrastructure priorities in line with the 2015 Master Plan • Supervise, mentor and develop the senior management team Qualifications: • Strong alignment with Tawonga's mission, culture and values, and a demonstrated commitment to Jewish community and Jewish life • Exceptional relationship-builder with high emotional intelligence and political savvy • Strategic thinker who balances long-term vision with operational realities; calm, sound judgment under pressure • Appreciation for outdoor and environmental education; familiarity with the Bay Area Jewish community or the ability to build credibility quickly • Experience with change management and consensus building • Master's degree in Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field preferred Salary: $245,000-$275,000 Benefits: • Comprehensive medical and dental coverage • Basic life insurance, AD&D, long-term disability, EAP and mental health telehealth • 403(b) with employer contributions and matching • 17 days paid vacation, tiered by years of service • 15-20 total paid days off per year for Jewish and secular holidays • 10 sick days per year; paid jury duty and bereavement leave • 2 weeks paid parental leave, in addition to state-mandated leave • Sabbatical program after 7 years of consecutive employment • Discounts on Tawonga summer and year-round programs; mileage reimbursement Camp Tawonga has a hybrid schedule combining work from home and the San Francisco office.
