Job description

Director of Marketing

Lubavitch International Magazine

Lubavitch International is a print and digital publication exploring the breadth and depth of traditional Jewish learning and values, both on their own terms and as they illuminate the issues facing society at large. Through long-form essays, personal narratives, reported articles, and poetry, we seek to offer a thoughtful, nuanced perspective on Jewish faith and practice, alongside news from the global Chabad network. The magazine also aims to generate new ideas, engaging with the most pressing questions confronting modern Jewish life and helping to inform and shape the perspectives of Chabad shluchim around the world.

Lubavitch International is seeking a Director of Marketing to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and publicity strategy that will attract new readers, deepen relationships with existing readers, and strengthen the magazine’s position as an important voice in conversations about the future of American Jewish life.

This is a part-time, hands-on role for someone who is energetic and comfortable working independently. Reporting to the magazine’s editorial team, the Director of Marketing will be responsible for high-level marketing and content strategy, audience development, networking, and social media management. The ideal candidate will be both a strategic thinker and an energetic go-getter: someone who can develop a vision for growing the magazine’s reach and then make it happen.

Familiarity with Chabad and the broader Jewish media landscape is preferred, but the most important qualifications are a strong appreciation for the magazine, excellent judgment, professionalism, and initiative. While the position is remote, candidates should be able to travel to Chabad Headquarters in Brooklyn for occasional meetings and events as needed.

Responsibilities
Develop and execute a marketing, publicity, and audience-growth strategy for the magazine
Identify and pursue opportunities to introduce Lubavitch International to new audiences
Develop and manage the magazine’s social media presence, including creating and/or coordinating engaging content
Generate publicity for individual articles, issues, and special features
Identify opportunities for the magazine’s writers and editors to participate in relevant conversations, podcasts, events, panels, and other media
Monitor audience growth and engagement and use data to refine marketing efforts
Work closely with the editors to ensure that marketing efforts reflect the publication’s editorial voice and priorities
Stay attuned to emerging conversations and opportunities in Jewish life, media, and culture
Qualifications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build and maintain professional relationships
Demonstrated experience in social media marketing, publicity, communications, media, audience development, or a related field
Strong understanding of social media platforms, with the ability to create compelling content
Strategic thinker with strong organizational and project-management skills
Creative, resourceful, and highly self-motivated
Professional judgment and an ability to represent the magazine thoughtfully and effectively
Comfortable working independently in a part-time, largely remote role
Appreciation for high-quality journalism, Jewish thought, and the mission and editorial sensibility of Lubavitch International
Familiarity with Chabad and/or the broader Jewish communal and media landscape preferred
Existing relationships within Jewish media, communications, or communal networks a plus
Willingness and ability to travel to Crown Heights and other relevant events as needed

This is an entry-level position with significant opportunity for growth. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
