Job description
Position Overview:
The Communications Associate helps implement a strategic, multi-faceted communications program designed to promote MAZON’s advocacy priorities, raise funds, and grow brand visibility. The position is based in the organization’s Washington, DC office in a remote/in-office hybrid environment. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Director of Communications, assists with day-to-day department projects, events, meetings, and general operations.
Works closely with the Senior Communications Manager to implement cross-channel communications strategy and various public relations tactics to advance MAZON’s advocacy, development, and programmatic goals.
Executes systems to maintain and improve MAZON’s online presence, including website and social media platforms. Compiles regular data and statistics about MAZON’s digital footprint.
Monitors MAZON in the news and anti-hunger issues in mainstream and niche media outlets, identifying opportunities for MAZON to engage, advance policy priorities, and raise visibility.
Curates MAZON’s story bank, media library (photos, videos, audio files, etc.), press lists, editorial calendars, and tracking documents.
Helps draft newsletter articles, talking points, speeches, opinion pieces, infographics, blog posts, and other materials as needed.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Some nights and weekends required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
At least 1-2 years of experience working in a nonprofit and/or public affairs organization, preferably in a communications role. Social justice, anti-hunger, public policy, or Jewish community experience is highly preferred.
Experience with WordPress, Canva, Google Analytics, and social media management. Experience with Salesforce, Quorum, Tableau, Feathr, or similar systems is a plus.
Excellent judgment, critical thinking, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
Keen eye for design and attention to detail.
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Ability to take direction well, manage deadlines efficiently, work independently, and collaborate effectively with various teams and partners.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism in all interactions.
