SALARY: The salary range for this position is $52,182.11 to $82,252.88 for Schedule A, and $52,182.11 to $73,634.81 for Schedule B. For newly hired individuals, the starting salary will normally be at the minimum of the salary range. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. Judiciary employees hired prior to August 21, 2014, are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals, and Judiciary employees hired on or after August 21, 2014, are considered Schedule B.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The Bergen Vicinage has an exciting Judiciary Clerk 4 advancement or reassignment opportunity for current Bergen Vicinage employees who meet the requirements below.

Under the direction of the Operations Manager, Jury Manager and other supervisory personnel, the selected candidate will perform specialized court support functions of a confidential nature relating to the management of the Grand Jury calendar and procedural stages of case processing.

REMOTE WORK: The Judiciary currently offers a hybrid work schedule, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. To participate in this program, in addition to installing a multifactor authentication app on your phone or tablet, you will be required to have high speed home internet access.
Example of Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:

Conduct verbally juror orientation at the beginning of each session
Record daily juror attendance
Record grand jury presentment proceedings on Courtsmart
Take and record the casting of juror votes for each case
Process daily regular mail and emails
Answer high volume phone calls
Secure the written Oath of Secrecy of grand jurors
Record and update juror records in automated data systems JMS
Maintain a high-level customer service to internal and external clients
Maintain a positive team approach and train team members as needed
Maintain a working knowledge of Excel worksheet creation and manipulation
Organize and manage all necessary document preparation to be submitted in the hand-up of cases in court and to the criminal division
Maintain ongoing communication relating to document preparation with the prosecutor’s office staff
Prepare weekly cases reports, dismissal orders, jail releases, case statistics, observation sheet reports, and other documents.
Proactively, ensure all documentation is submitted promptly and all records are maintained securely.
Adhere to the Oath of Secrecy of grand jury proceedings
Generate Zoom links for grand jury selection day
Conduct Zoom grand jury selection
Prepare letters of prospective dates of service for jurors
Perform other administrative duties as required

Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.

Eligibility for Advancement: Eligibility is based upon the applicants having achieved all the competencies for advancement to Judiciary Clerk 4 as listed on the Career Progression Eligibility Form for this title. Applicants for advancement to the Judiciary Clerk 4 title are not required to take a New Jersey Civil Service Commission promotional examination.

Experience Requirement: Three years of experience performing a variety of clerical and support services to include keyboarding and one or more of the following: document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts and/or scheduling meetings or appointments.

Ability to use a keyboard, no minimum speed.

Supplemental Information
Physical Ability: For some positions, applicants must have the ability to perform work which requires climbing and prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching to perform the essential duties of the position. For some positions, the selected candidate must be able to frequently lift and carry supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and, occasionally, materials weighing up to 75 pounds, in order to perform essential duties of the position.

Driver's License: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Special Note: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. All data received will be kept in strict confidence except to inform the individual of the findings and what action will be taken as a result of this information.

Residency Law: In accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
