Senior Accounting Advisor | Five Towns, NY $140,000 $160,000

About the Role

We're looking for a seasoned accounting leader to step into a dual leadership role: managing our Accounts Payable function while mentoring and developing our Account Leads. This is a high-impact position for someone who thrives at the intersection of operational management, coaching, and hands-on financial oversight. You'll be a leader of leaders modeling excellence on your own accounts while helping others grow into confident, independent owners of their client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

Lead, manage, and hold Account Leads accountable through structured check-ins, systems-based training, and targeted development

Mentor Leads in financial reviews, client reporting, and workflow management, helping them grow into confident, autonomous owners of their engagements

Calibrate your level of involvement as Leads develop stepping in when needed, stepping back to promote ownership

Monitor performance signals and provide constructive, timely feedback

AP & Accounting Management

Oversee day-to-day AP operations, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to firm standards

Oversee the accuracy and integrity of client bookkeeping and accounting, including AR, general ledger activity, and bank reconciliations

Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities; prepare and review financial statements and reports

Implement and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls

Collaborate with clients to understand their accounting needs and deliver tailored solutions

Capacity & Operations

Maintain visibility into workloads across Leads and their teams; identify and address imbalances proactively

Coach Leads on strategic delegation and efficient use of offshore support

Drive adoption of company platforms, processes, and technology across your team

Ensure client onboarding is seamless, professional, and consistent with company standards

Foster collaboration across Leads, Advisors, and offshore staff escalating only when necessary

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or CMA strongly preferred

7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership or managerial role

Demonstrated experience managing AP functions and overseeing accounting teams

Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks or similar)

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail

Proven ability to mentor staff, delegate effectively, and develop talent

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; adept at building and maintaining client and internal relationships

Experience in an outsourced accounting firm or similar environment highly desirable
