Job Description
The Criminal Practice of The Legal Aid Society has openings for one Paralegal I position in the Parole Revocation Defense Unit, Bronx office. The Paralegal I will work with a team that represents clients accused of violating their conditions of release at parole revocation hearings and recognizance hearings in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens courts as well as other NYC-located offices and facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Enter and update case data on case management systems and SharePoint
Messenger assignments
Receptionist work; answering phones, delivering messages and routing calls to legal staff
Copy, fax, scan, collate and batch documents
Distribution of various documents
Enter and search data on various databases
Generate daily, weekly and monthly reports from case management systems and various databases
Update court calendars
Send and retrieve files from archives
Perform all word processing as needed
Catalogue and update library materials
Office filing
Create and maintain case files
Sort and deliver mail (may involve going to the post office), includes UPS/FEDEX, Airborne, etc.
Preparation and delivery of Court filings
Provide general information to clients, clients’ families, vendors and staff
Review, code and process documents, as needed
Ensuring that court offices are organized and well stocked with supplies
Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Required qualifications:

Eligible candidates must have at least one of the following:
A high school diploma / GED
At least 2 years of work experience
Proficiency in word processing and computer skills.
Strong interpersonal, communications and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and problem solve
Ability to work independently and multi-task
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel.
Ability to work in a team setting

Preferred qualifications:

Fluency in a second language common to our client population preferred
