Job description
About The Role
Our pharmacy is small, community-focused, and personal. The PRN/Per Diem Pharmacist steps in to cover vacations, illness, and other scheduling needs. This role suits someone experienced, dependable, and comfortable working independently, who takes real satisfaction in thoughtful, unhurried patient care. You’ll report to the Director of Pharmacy and work alongside The Ark’s medical providers and client services team.
What You’ll Do
Dispensing and Clinical Review
Dispense prescription medications accurately and in accordance with provider orders and pharmacy standards
Review prescriptions for appropriateness, dosing, interactions, and contraindications
Reach out to prescribing providers to clarify orders or resolve medication-related concerns
Ensure medications are labeled, stored, and handled properly
Patient Counseling
Counsel clients on what their medications are for, how to take them, and what to watch for
Explain risks, side effects, and interactions in plain language, at whatever level of health literacy the client brings
Communicate with patience and cultural sensitivity, including with clients managing medical and mental health challenges
Compliance and Team Support
Comply with HIPAA, Illinois pharmacy regulations, and applicable state and federal requirements
Maintain accurate pharmacy records and documentation
What You’ll Bring
Education / Licensure:
Bachelor’s Degree or Doctor of Pharmacy
Active Illinois pharmacist license in good standing required
Experience:
Experience dispensing in a retail, community, or clinical pharmacy setting required
Skills/Requirements:
Experience with Liberty pharmacy software is a plus
Dependable and responsive to coverage requests, and genuinely patient-centered — with cultural humility and an appreciation for Jewish values
Schedule:
As-needed coverage. Shifts are scheduled in advance whenever possible, with occasional short-notice requests for unplanned absences. There is no minimum or guaranteed number of hours.
Why You’ll Love Working Here
Flexible, as-needed scheduling that works alongside another position
Paid leave accrual under the Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act
A small, collaborative pharmacy where you have time to actually talk with patients
Work that puts needed medications in the hands of neighbors who could not otherwise afford them
