Overview
A growing organization is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to oversee payroll operations across multiple business entities. This individual will own the day-to-day payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing payroll for a large hourly workforce, including union and non-union employees. This role requires strong payroll knowledge, attention to accuracy, and the ability to partner closely with HR, Finance, and Operations to resolve issues and continuously improve payroll processes.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented payroll professional with 4+ years of hands-on payroll experience who has successfully managed payroll operations in a complex, hourly workforce environment. This person should be organized, tech-savvy, and comfortable working with payroll systems, timekeeping platforms, and reporting tools.
They should have strong communication skills and the ability to partner effectively with HR, Finance, and Operations to resolve issues, answer employee questions, and ensure accurate payroll processing.
Experience with multi-entity payroll, union and non-union employees, prevailing wage requirements, job costing, and compliance reporting is highly preferred.
This is a hands-on payroll role for someone who enjoys owning the process, solving problems, and ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time.
Responsibilities
Manage end-to-end payroll processing for approximately 450 employees across multiple business entities
Process payroll accurately and on schedule, including regular hours, overtime, shift differentials, bonuses, deductions, and adjustments
Review and validate timekeeping records and payroll data for accuracy
Handle payroll processing for both union and non-union employees
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
Maintain compliance with wage requirements, including prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting when applicable
Manage employee payroll changes, including new hires, terminations, promotions, and compensation updates
Partner with HR and Operations regarding employee questions, payroll issues, and payroll-related processes
Support payroll accounting functions, including reconciliations, reporting, and coordination with Finance
Assist with payroll audits, compliance reviews, and documentation requests
Maintain accurate payroll records while protecting confidential employee information
Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, systems, and overall efficiency
Qualifications
4+ years of hands-on payroll experience
Experience processing payroll for hourly employees
Strong understanding of payroll regulations, wage compliance, and payroll best practices
Highly detail-oriented with strong accuracy and organizational skills
Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across departments
Tech-savvy with the ability to learn and utilize payroll systems, timekeeping platforms, and other software tools
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify and resolve payroll issues independently
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting
Bilingual English & Spanish preferred.
Experience with union payroll, multiple entities, prevailing wage, certified payroll, job costing, or multi-state payroll is strongly preferred.
