General Manager – High-Volume Grocery Operations

Lakewood, NJ
$135,000 – $175,000 Plus Performance Bonus

FT including Sundays - one day off during the week

Overview

A growing specialty grocery retailer is seeking a strong General Manager to lead one of its high-volume locations.

This is more than a traditional store management role. The General Manager is responsible for the overall success of the business—driving financial performance, leading a large multi-department team, delivering an outstanding customer experience, and building a culture of accountability and execution.

The right candidate is a hands-on operator who enjoys leading people, analyzing the business, solving problems, and continuously improving results. Working closely with senior leadership, you'll have the opportunity to influence the direction of the store while helping drive the company's continued growth.

Key Responsibilities

Lead all day-to-day operations of a high-volume grocery store

Own the store's financial performance, including sales, payroll, gross profit, shrink, inventory, and profitability

Analyze KPIs and operational metrics to identify opportunities and improve performance

Lead, coach, mentor, and develop department managers and store leadership

Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, and exceptional customer service

Ensure departments are fully staffed, well-merchandised, and operating efficiently

Drive operational excellence while maintaining high standards throughout the store

Partner closely with senior leadership to implement company initiatives and operational improvements

Build strong relationships with employees, vendors, and internal teams

Identify operational challenges and implement practical, results-driven solutions

Balance day-to-day execution with long-term business growth and continuous improvement

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a proven retail operator who knows how to lead people, drive performance, and run a successful business.

This person should have:

General Manager, Store Director, District Manager, or similar leadership experience within supermarkets, grocery, specialty food retail, club stores, or other high-volume multi-department retail environments

Strong financial acumen with experience managing sales, gross profit, payroll, shrink, inventory, and key operational metrics

Proven ability to lead, develop, and hold large teams accountable

Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to improve store performance

Excellent communication and leadership skills

A hands-on management style with the ability to motivate teams and lead by example

Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities

Ambitious, execution-focused, and committed to continuous improvement

Supermarket or grocery experience is strongly preferred

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced retail leader to take ownership of a significant operation, partner closely with executive leadership, and grow with a company that values initiative, performance, and long-term career development.
