KAVI is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) youth-serving organization with a mission to prevent and eliminate interpersonal violence from the lives of young people through advocacy, peer leadership, community mobilization, and social justice.

KAVI promotes community wellness and healing by operating high-impact youth violence prevention and intervention programs in Central Brooklyn. Our programs take place in hospital-based, school, and community settings. Job Description:

The Youth Advocate will serve as a key staff member supporting young people in East Flatbush, Erasmus, and Remsen Village. Working within the framework of KAVI’s Neighborhood Safety Council (NSC), the Youth Advocate will provide direct support to youth in employment, education, and entrepreneurial activities. This role will strengthen youth engagement across NSC projects, expand access to resources, and empower young people to achieve personal and professional goals while building resilience and leadership.

Comment: The Youth Advocate will serve as a key staff member supporting young people in East Flatbush, Erasmus, and Remsen Village. This role will not only strengthen youth engagement across NSC projects and expand access to resources but also empower young people to achieve personal and professional goals, thereby building resilience and leadership. Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one advocacy, mentorship, and case management to young people ages 16–24.
Support youth in developing individualized action plans for school re-engagement, job readiness, and entrepreneurial exploration.
Expand and maintain KAVI’s Community Resource Guide; train youth and NSC members on navigating available services.
Connect youth to opportunities such as hiring halls, job fairs, internships, apprenticeships, scholarships, and entrepreneurship workshops.
Facilitate/co-facilitate youth-centered workshops on topics such as career readiness, financial literacy, leadership, and conflict resolution.
Collaborate with Peer Navigators, Outreach Workers, and community partners to strengthen wraparound services for young people.
Maintain accurate records of youth participation and progress; contribute to data collection and reporting for NSC projects.
Engage in NSC meetings, subcommittees, resource fairs, and community events (including healing circles and beautification projects).
Build trusting, trauma-informed relationships with youth and families to strengthen long-term outcomes.

Qualifications & Competencies

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in social work, youth development, education, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
At least 2 years of experience working directly with youth, preferably in community-based or school-based settings.
Strong understanding of challenges facing youth impacted by violence, trauma, or systemic inequities.
Knowledge of employment, education, and entrepreneurship resources in NYC.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders, including schools, CBOs, businesses, and law enforcement.
Strong organizational and data management skills.
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed practices.
