Job description

Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Location: Brooklyn, NY
Schedule: Full-Time, In-Office
Salary: $200,000+ DOE

Position Overview

A growing healthcare organization specializing in addiction recovery and substance-use treatment is seeking an experienced and hands-on Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee the organization’s financial operations and lead its finance team.

This is a senior leadership position requiring someone with strong healthcare finance experience and a deep understanding of the financial complexities of operating a healthcare facility.

The ideal candidate will have experience in behavioral health, detox/recovery centers, nursing homes, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, or another healthcare environment and will be comfortable taking full ownership of the organization's financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the organization's overall financial strategy and financial health.
  • Lead and manage the finance and accounting teams.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash flow, and financial planning.
  • Develop and monitor financial controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Analyze financial performance and provide senior leadership with actionable insights.
  • Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, billing, collections, and cash management.
  • Monitor revenue cycles and identify opportunities to improve collections and profitability.
  • Prepare and present financial reports, forecasts, and budgets to ownership and senior leadership.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and accounting.
  • Work closely with operational leadership to understand financial performance and improve efficiency.
  • Oversee financial compliance and ensure proper financial controls are maintained.
  • Manage relationships with outside accountants, auditors, financial institutions, and other financial partners.
  • Identify financial risks and opportunities and develop strategies to address them.
  • Support organizational growth, expansion, and long-term financial planning.
  • Provide strong financial leadership while remaining hands-on with the business.

Requirements

  • Significant healthcare finance experience is a MUST.
  • Experience in detox, addiction recovery, behavioral health, substance-abuse treatment, nursing homes, hospitals, skilled nursing, or a comparable healthcare organization strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of the financial operations of a healthcare organization.
  • Proven experience leading and managing a finance/accounting team.
  • High-level knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial controls.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare billing and revenue-cycle operations.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership and communication abilities.
  • Ability to work closely with ownership and senior management.
  • Must be comfortable working full-time in the office in Brooklyn.
  • CPA or advanced financial credentials are a plus but not required if the candidate has the right experience.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a high-level finance leader who understands healthcare, not simply a CFO with strong general accounting experience.

The right candidate will understand the unique financial challenges of healthcare operations and will have the leadership ability to manage a team, take ownership of the numbers, and serve as a strategic financial partner to ownership.
