Designer, Track

What You Will Do

As a Designer, Track you will be responsible for providing engineering support regarding the development and selection of appropriate design concepts, analysis of technical data, and production of design information as related to existing and/or proposed design projects for subway track systems.

This role involves analyzing technical data, developing and reviewing engineering drawings, specifications, and cost estimates, and ensuring designs meet operational, safety, constructability, and TTC standards. You will also investigate and resolve technical and design issues, evaluate track components and construction methods, support tendering and material acquisition processes, oversee inspections and acceptance of track materials, and provide technical expertise for rehabilitation and capital improvement programs.

What Qualifications Do You Bring?

You have a University Degree in a related discipline (i.e. Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering) or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed to be equivalent;
You have good project management skills in order to develop and proceed with complex investigations involving plans and specifications for alternative track alignments, material procurements, and construction methodologies;
You must be computer literate with a strong knowledge of personal computers and computerized applications related to the work (i.e. reporting and scheduling systems);
Knowledge of permanent way design principles, track maintenance, and construction practices encompassing subways is an asset;
Familiarity with the following is an asset: railway/transit industry standards (AREMA, ASTM etc.); roadway and structural design requirements; computer aided drawing (CAD) and modern surveying techniques;
Sound judgement and well-developed mathematical, analytical, organizational, verbal communication and technical report writing skills;
Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
