Job description

About the Role
Polymarket's Finance team is small, moves fast, and owns a lot. We're building the financial infrastructure that supports a company scaling at an unusual pace, and payroll is a critical part of that foundation. This role reports directly to the Controller and sits at the center of a cross-functional web connecting HR, Legal, and Finance.

We're hiring a Payroll Manager to own end-to-end payroll across a growing, multi-state employee base. This isn't a role where you maintain what someone else built — you'll assess what exists, identify what's broken or missing, and build the systems, controls, and processes that can scale with us.

What You'll Do
Run end-to-end payroll processing each cycle, including wages, overtime, bonuses, commissions, deductions, and benefits across multiple states

Reconcile timekeeping data, garnishments, and benefits deductions before every close, and flag discrepancies before they become problems

Own federal, state, and local tax withholding and remittance obligations, and resolve any compliance gaps independently

Maintain and improve the configuration of Rippling or Deel as headcount grows, roles change, and comp structures evolve

Partner with HR on new hires, terminations, and compensation changes to keep payroll records accurate in real time

Prepare payroll reports for Finance, HR, and external audits, and manage year-end filings including W-2s and 1099s

Identify manual processes that shouldn't be manual and build or configure systems to fix them

What We're Looking For
4+ years of progressive payroll or accounting experience, with direct ownership of multi-state payroll and tax compliance

Hands-on experience at a high-growth tech startup or private company where processes were still being built, not just followed

Deep familiarity with modern payroll systems — hands-on experience with Rippling or Deel specifically is strongly preferred

Demonstrated ability to process payroll with zero material errors across complex comp structures, including bonuses, commissions, and equity

Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements, including withholding, remittance, and filing obligations

Track record of building trusted working relationships with HR, Legal, and Finance to align on headcount events and comp changes without handoff failures

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent demonstrated experience

(Plus) Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation

(Plus) Prior public company payroll experience

(Plus) Experience handling non-standard compensation structures involving crypto, tokens, or equity with tax implications
