Position Title: Supervising Zoological Park Maintainer, Plumbing Shop
Department: Operations
Location: Bronx Zoo
Position Summary
Under general supervision, directs and performs responsible work in the maintenance and operation of mechanical systems including but not limited to heating, cooling, plumbing distribution systems and controls at various locations.
Responsible for all work requiring application of plumbing skills.
Principal Responsibilities
• Perform & supervise general maintenance or specialized work with regard to plumbing and shop work.
• Repairs, supervises and maintains all types of work, pertaining to the plumbing field, heating systems including boilers, ventilation and pumping systems.
• Install, repair and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, pumps, heating systems, heat exchangers, drainage systems, and fixtures in commercial buildings.
• Required to display proficiency and skill in the use of tools associated with the plumbing field.
• Keeps records and prepares reports on work performed and material used.
• Will be required to respond to snow and storm related emergencies to assist with removal and clean-up operations during normal and off-normal business hours
• Perform related tasks and duties as required..
Internal Qualification Requirements
• High school graduate
• Valid Driver’s License
• (5) years’ experience in plumbing field.
• Knowledge of Building Code, safety practices
• Familiarity in working with PVC, CPVC, Pex, Pro-Press, Cast iron and copper
• Ability to solder and braze
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
• The position requires indoor work and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Tasks require manual dexterity and the ability to safely use tools and equipment, including but not limited to ladders, hand tools (saws, drills, sanders, wrenches, ratchets,
• screwdrivers) etc., power tools (battery-powered and electric), and pneumatic (air-powered) tools such as impact guns, torque tools, grinders
• Some tasks require climbing, kneeling, bending, reaching, stretching, navigating uneven terrain frequently
• Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds on a regular basis with or without assistance
• Ability and willingness to work weekends, holidays, evenings.
• Ability to respond to emergencies as required
• Must be able to work Overtime as required.
