Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly experienced, motivated Financial Manager to oversee Women’s League for Conservative Judaism’s financial management, recordkeeping, revenue and expense tracking, budgeting, payroll, and tax/audit compliance. This position is based in New York City and reports to the Executive Director. The ideal candidate has strong nonprofit accounting experience, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage daily financial operations while supporting long-term financial health and sustainability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial Operations

Manage and provide backup for all bookkeeping tasks, including chart of accounts, expense classes, income tracking, journal entries, accounts payable, and payroll, in a timely and precise manner.
Develop and maintain internal controls, procedures and systems for organizational expenses and reimbursements.
Ensure financial records are in compliance with the highest nonprofit transparency standards.
Ensure all financial data is properly recorded in accounting software (Quick books on Line) and CRM.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records including deferrals and restricted fund accounting.
Responsible for managing the transfer of cash among the various cash and investment accounts.
Reconcile investment accounts, bank reconciliations and other restricted fund account reconciliations that need higher level review than the accounting assistant on a monthly basis.
Responsible for managing the accounting assistant with daily/monthly tasks to ensure projects are completed on time and the monthly close process and reporting is completed on time for the monthly executive meetings.
Responsible for calculating the quarterly and annual distributions for Torah Fund beneficiary institutions.
Responsible for the annual true up of the administrative agreement between Torah Fund & WLCJ.
Responsible for management of our credit card processor stripe and assigning new users to the various portals within the WLCJ umbrella.
Gradual supervision for Region Treasurers oversight.
Contract review.

Financial Planning and Budgeting

Assist senior leadership by developing and managing both the annual operating budget, annual region allocations and tri-annual convention budget.
Monitor actual performance against the budget and identify any variances.
Obtain management approvals for expenses outside the annual budgets.
Prepare financial forecasts and projections for future years.
Explore and implement cost-saving measures and strategies.

Financial Reporting and Analysis

Responsible for the monthly close process in Quick Books online.
Prepare all financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, cash flow projections, functional expense allocations and restricted and unrestricted programs.
Ensure that the financial statements presented by classes and accounting for restricted funds are accurate and are up to date.
Modify reports in Quick Books online to meet management needs.
Analyze financial data to identify trends, assess risks, and inform decision-making.
Prepare monthly financial reports versus budgets along with commentary for the Board of Directors, Executive and Finance Committee monthly meeting on a timely basis.

Human Resources and Payroll

Responsible for the new employee onboarding process and managing eligibility for company benefits and annual medical insurance and pension enrollment.
Review biweekly payroll, ensuring payments and deductions are made accurately and on schedule each pay period.
Ensure we collect, verify, and maintain all necessary documentation (e.g., timesheets, W-9s, benefits enrollment) for employees.
Track and document any garnishments, paid time off in Paychex, or benefits contributions; ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and internal policies.

Tax Accounting / Independent Accounting Support

Responsible for sales tax exemptions and filing annual 1099’s to various federal and state reporting requirements.
Serve as the primary liaison with independent accountants, providing PBC list and other documentation accurately and on time.
Manage communication flow between senior leadership, external accountants, auditors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth, efficient processes.
Participate in special projects requiring financial support as directed by the Executive Director.

Education and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or a related field preferred.
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior financial role, preferably in the non-profit sector.
Strong understanding of GAAP and non-profit accounting principles.
Experience with bookkeeping, budgeting, payroll processing, administration, forecasting, non-profit accounting, financial analysis
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently while collaborating effectively with staff and volunteers.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and accounting software (QBO).
Legally authorized to work in the United States.
