Job description

Key Responsibilities:

Analyze project documents, including blueprints, specifications, and contract terms, to understand project requirements and scope.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information for accurate cost estimation.
Conduct site visits and inspections to assess project conditions and identify potential cost factors.
Prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, and other expenses, using established methodologies and estimating software.
Identify and quantify project risks and contingencies and incorporate them into the cost estimates.
Review and evaluate subcontractor quotes and proposals to ensure compliance with project requirements and budgetary constraints.
Collaborate with procurement teams to obtain accurate pricing and availability of materials and equipment.
Develop and maintain a cost database of historical data, including labor rates, material costs, and productivity factors, to support future estimating efforts.
Prepare cost breakdowns and reports for project stakeholders, highlighting major cost drivers, potential cost savings, and risks.
Participate in project meetings and provide cost-related insights and recommendations to support decision-making.
Monitor project costs throughout the project lifecycle, identify deviations from the original estimates, and provide timely cost updates and forecasts.
Mentor and train junior estimators, providing guidance on estimating techniques, best practices, and industry standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
Proven experience as an estimator or senior estimator in a construction, manufacturing, or related industry.
Strong knowledge of construction techniques, materials, and industry standards.
Familiar with project management principles and methodologies is a plus.
Proficient with AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and other technology aided estimating programs
Must be a critical thinker with creative problem-solving abilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent attention to detail, organization and time management skills
Ability to multi-task, work efficiently, and meet deadlines
Ability to read and understand complex technical documents
The ideal candidate is comfortable leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies to improve operations, increase efficiencies, and automate processes.
