Job description

The Construction Inspector serves as RK&K's field representative, helping ensure projects are constructed in accordance with approved plans, specifications, regulatory requirements, permit conditions, and client standards.

The ideal candidate will have experience inspecting natural gas distribution or transmission projects, pipeline construction, utility installations, site development, or related energy infrastructure projects.

Essential Functions

As a Construction Inspector, you will:

Perform daily field inspections of natural gas, energy, and utility construction projects.
Monitor contractor activities to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, and applicable regulations.
Observe pipeline installation, facility construction, earthwork, grading, restoration, erosion and sediment control measures, and related construction activities.
Document construction progress through daily reports, photographs, field notes, quantity tracking, and inspection records.
Communicate construction issues, non-conforming work, schedule concerns, and field observations to project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients.
Verify materials, equipment, and workmanship meet project requirements and quality standards.
Monitor compliance with environmental permit requirements, including erosion and sediment control and stormwater management measures.
Review and track contractor testing, inspection reports, and quality control documentation.
Coordinate with engineers and contractors to resolve field conflicts and support project completion.
Participate in project meetings and provide updates regarding construction progress, safety, quality, and compliance.
Assist with project punch lists, final inspections, and project closeout activities.
Promote safe work practices and monitor construction activities for compliance with project-specific safety requirements.
Required Skills and Experience

Five (5) + years of construction inspection or construction management experience on utility, pipeline, civil, or energy infrastructure projects.
Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, specifications, permits, and contract documents.
Familiarity with natural gas, pipeline, utility, or site development construction practices.
Knowledge of erosion and sediment control requirements and environmental compliance practices.
Ability to produce detailed and accurate field documentation and inspection reports.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently in field environments and manage multiple assignments.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Skills and Experience

Experience inspecting natural gas distribution and/or transmission construction projects.
Familiarity with CFR Part 192 requirements.
Knowledge of cathodic protection and corrosion control systems.
Experience with station, regulator, gate station, or pipeline facility construction.
Pennsylvania utility or energy project experience.
Experience monitoring ESCGP-4, NPDES, and environmental permit compliance.
NICET, OSHA 10/30, AMPP (formerly NACE), or other industry certifications.
Experience with GIS, ArcGIS, or electronic field reporting software.
