Job description

The Empire Group is a real estate and property management company overseeing a portfolio of approximately 1,500 properties. We are seeking a hands-on, detail-driven finance leader to own both the strategic and the day-to-day financial operations Of the business as we continue to grow.


POSITION SUMMARY

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as the senior-most finance leader for The Empire Group, responsible for the company's financial strategy, reporting, and controls, while also personally handling some of the day-to-day bookkeeping across a portfolio of roughly 1,500 properties. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is equally comfortable presenting cash flow projections to the Owners and closing out the monthly books. The ideal candidate has real estate or property management accounting experience at scale and is looking for a role where they can build and own the finance function from the ground up, With the expectation Of building out a supporting team as the workload requires it.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic & Executive Finance

  • Develop and maintain annual budgets, cash flow forecasts, and long-range financial plans for the company and individual properties/entities.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and performance reports to the Owners.
  • Design, implement, and maintain internal controls and accounting policies appropriate for a multi-entity real estate portfolio.
  • Oversee tax planning and coordinate With outside CPAs/tax preparers for entity and property-level filings.
  • Build out the finance and accounting function as the company grows, including hiring and managing future bookkeeping/accounting staff.


Day-to-Day Bookkeeping

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date books for the company and each property/entity using a property accounting platform.
  • Perform monthly bank, credit card, and mortgage account reconciliations across all entities.
  • Maintain the general ledger, post journal entries, and perform month-end and year-end close.
  • Track security deposits, escrow accounts, and other trust/reserve accounts in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Prepare 1099s and Other routine filings, and maintain organized, audit-ready financial records.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including prior CFO, Controller, or senior accounting experience — real estate or property management industry strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing accounting/bookkeeping for a large, multi-property portfolio strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to operate at both a strategic level and a hands-on, transactional level.
  • Strong proficiency in property management software (e.g., AppFolio, Yardi, Buildium, or similar) is a must.
  • Advanced Excel skills; ability to build clean, reliable financial models and reports. Excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail, With the discipline to manage recurring bookkeeping tasks Without oversight.
  • High level Of integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial information. Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate financial detail into clear guidance for ownership.
