Job description

Essential Job Functions:

Provide appropriate supervision at all times to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of program participants.

Be an agent of safety for campers. This includes taking responsibility for one’s well-being and the well-being of others.

Keep the immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns regarding participants, staff, or the facility.

Engage participants in meaningful activities, lesson plans, and special events that are structured, age-appropriate, fun, exciting, and challenging and based on values in the areas of arts, STEM, character development, literacy, creative expression, community service, physical fitness, and/or nutrition.

Prepare the learning environment and necessary supplies for program activities. Assume responsibility for the cleanliness and organization of the camp room, program supplies, and activity space.

Support the planning and implementation of all activities, including but not limited to learning initiatives, field trips, and culminating performances.

Provide support to Activity Specialists with activity implementation.

Create and maintain a strength-based, youth-focused atmosphere that is consistent and sensitive to the needs of participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.

Serve as a positive role model for participants.

Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians through regular communication about their child’s strengths and areas of growth. Take a leadership role in providing regular updates to caregivers.

Attend all required training sessions. Actively participate in training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.

Ensure that groups are in ratio.

Required Skills:

Possess a desire to work directly with children

Ability to work as a team member

Responsible, friendly, enthusiastic, actively engaged, and patient

Ability to follow directions and adhere to all policies/procedures

Open to feedback with a desire to grow professionally

Must have reliable communication/computer devices at home with the capacity to access the internet consistently to respond to organizational emails as well as complete training before the start of work (if needed)

Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years old

High School Diploma required; some college preferred

Experience working with children strongly preferred

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

May be required to walk up and down stairs.
May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed.
Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School but may be required to interact with community at-large during trips or events.
