What You Will Do: The Clinical Laboratory Assistant is responsible for performing phlebotomy procedures, blood processing, obtaining lab results from reference laboratories, assisting with andrology related duties, and maintenance of computer-generated logs and reports for patient testing and billing. The Clinical Laboratory Assistant reports to the Clinical Lab Supervisor.
Provide phlebotomy services to clinical laboratory patients according to CCRM protocols (i.e., patient identification, patient preparation, and specimen collection/labeling).
Confirm all information with patient and request/facilitate any necessary changes.
Confirm patient insurance information and ensure use of contracted reference laboratory when appropriate; route billing information as “bill insurance”; “bill patient”; “bill client”.
Process sample(s) for testing, ensure proper transportation/storage conditions, complete requisition forms, and maintain electronic record of all processes.
Generate billing, charges, and payment information for laboratory services and perform billing audit as required.
Maintain sanitary work environment and follow bloodborne pathogen handling and disposal procedures per OSHA guidelines.
Maintain adequate supplies for phlebotomy procedures; conduct inventory at pre-established intervals and order supplies to maintain inventory.
Follow established procedure for returned shipping kits.
Review and maintain the RSO to reflect current/pending orders daily.
Collaborate with genetic laboratories to ensure proper billing and resolve billing issues.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You Bring:
High School Diploma or equivalent required..
Working knowledge of laboratory software.
Able to collect payment for services rendered.
Maintain strict confidentiality for all clinic/lab information in accordance with CCRM security and confidentiality policies and HIPAA regulations.
