Job Description
The Event Set-Up Custodian, under the direction of the Janitorial Supervisor or Manager, is responsible for providing custodial services and supporting the setup, breakdown, and preparation of event spaces throughout the university campus. This position helps ensure classrooms, meeting rooms, auditoriums, conference spaces, common areas, and other campus facilities are clean, safe, organized, and properly prepared for university events and daily operations. Quality customer service skills are required, along with knowledge of or willingness to learn proper cleaning, event setup, and material-handling techniques.
Job Responsibilities:
Set up and break down tables, chairs, furniture, staging, and other equipment for university events and activities.
Prepare classrooms, meeting rooms, auditoriums, conference spaces, and other areas according to event requirements.
Assist with the movement and arrangement of furniture and equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Vacuum, sweep, and mop flooring and stairs.
Clean and sanitize bathrooms and replenish supplies as needed.
Clean sinks, countertops, microwaves, refrigerators, and other designated areas in break rooms.
Restock supplies in bathrooms, break rooms, event spaces, and common areas.
Empty trash and recycling receptacles, replace liners, and clean receptacles as necessary.
Clean and maintain event spaces before, during, and after scheduled events.
Dust and clean office desks, furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces that are not cluttered.
Clean windowsills and windows as assigned.
Maintain janitor closets and event storage areas in a clean, organized, and safe manner.
Maintain custodial and event setup equipment in a clean, safe, and operable condition.
Properly label, dilute, handle, and use all cleaning chemicals in accordance with established procedures.
Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times when required.
Assist with campus events, conferences, meetings, ceremonies, and other special activities as directed.
Respond professionally and courteously to requests from university staff, students, visitors, and event organizers.
Maintain a clean, safe, and professional appearance of assigned campus areas.
Perform other routine custodial, event setup, and facility support duties as assigned.

Engage professionally with university leaders, administrators, and facility stakeholders.
Interact with students, faculty, staff, visitors, customers, and event organizers.
Collaborate with custodial staff, facilities personnel, event services, and other campus departments.
Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding event setup needs and facility conditions.
Requirements (Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Education and/or Experience):
Six months or more of related customer service, custodial, event setup, or facility services experience preferred.
Previous experience in a university, institutional, commercial, or similar environment is a plus.
Experience with event setup, furniture movement, or facility support is a plus.
Valid Driver's License is a plus.
Floor care experience is a plus.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong customer service skills and a professional, courteous demeanor.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced campus environment.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and event setup diagrams or work orders.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to safely operate custodial and event setup equipment after appropriate training.
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to frequently move, arrange, and reposition tables, chairs, furniture, and other event-related equipment.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods.
Ability to work in various campus environments, including classrooms, offices, auditoriums, athletic or event spaces, and outdoor areas as required.
Ability to work around students, faculty, staff, visitors, and members of the public while maintaining a professional and service-oriented approach.
Attention to detail, organization, and the ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
