Yachad, a division of The Orthodox Union, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish organization‚ supports individuals with intellectual, developmental, and learning disabilities. Yachad helps these individuals participate more fully in Jewish life and the broader society by providing educational, employment and relationship opportunities.

The Orthodox Union (OU) is the largest Orthodox Jewish organization in the U.S., founded in 1898. The OU supports a vast network of synagogues, youth programs, advocacy efforts, services for individuals with disabilities, and international initiatives. It also operates the leading kosher certification service, recognized globally by the  symbol on numerous kosher food products.

 

More About Yachad:

  • Operates the largest stand-alone Jewish special education school system (IVDU), which currently operates 4 schools in New York and New Jersey, educating 150 students annually.
  • Operates adult day programs currently in New York and New Jersey, with a focus on helping individuals develop skills and opportunities to contribute to the community.
  • As a summer camp/program provider, provides more diverse opportunities for more participants than any Jewish provider of summer experiences for individuals with disabilities. These include inclusive camp experiences, vocational experiences, travel programs, vacation-style programs, and include both single gender and co-educational options.
  • Operates 10 regions serving over 20 communities providing social and relationship opportunities through weekday evening programs, Shabbatonim, and much more. More than 1000 individuals participate in these programs annually.
  • Began the first of its kind resource and referral service (REACH) that is data-informed and completely free. Families from around the world can call to speak with a qualified professional and receive referrals from our vast database.
  • Engages youth, both school-aged and college-aged students in helping to desensitize attitudes towards individuals with disabilities, as well as encourage volunteerism and service in our youth. 

 

Position Summary:

Yachad seeks a Communications & Marketing Specialist to help bring our mission to life through compelling storytelling, strategic communications, and collaborative marketing support. This position is ideal for a curious, relationship-oriented communications professional who enjoys discovering meaningful stories, building relationships across the organization, and transforming those stories into communications that inspire connection, engagement, and action.

 

Responsibilities:

Storytelling & Content

  • Build relationships across Yachad to identify meaningful stories and communications opportunities.
  • Interview participants, families, volunteers, donors, educators, and staff.
  • Write articles, newsletters, emails, website content, annual report stories, speeches, campaign materials, and other organizational communications. Help maintain Yachad's voice across all communications.

Campaigns & Projects

  • Own assigned communications projects from concept through completion, including content development, stakeholder coordination, production, review cycles, and final delivery.
  • Coordinate communications for campaigns, fundraising initiatives, events, and special projects.
  • Partner with creative services and external vendors to develop communications materials and keep projects moving through production.
  • Manage project timelines, reviews, approvals, and revisions.

Editorial Planning

  • Maintain the editorial calendar and identify upcoming communications and storytelling opportunities.
  • Gather stories and communications needs from across the organization.
  • Identify new storytelling opportunities and support organizational priorities.

Program Support

  • Provide communications guidance and editorial support to all Yachad departments (development, IVDU, Summer, JUF and Regions).
  • Develop messaging frameworks, editorial resources, and sample communications.
  • Brainstorm communications ideas and provide messaging guidance.
  • Provide editorial guidance and, when appropriate, draft and edit communications that support organizational initiatives.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • 4 to 7 years of communications experience, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
  • Outstanding writing and editing skills.
  • Demonstrated experience interviewing individuals and developing compelling human-interest stories.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong initiative and attention to detail.
  • Highly motivated self-starter who can initiate, prioritize and motivate.
  • Has the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Needs to be able to manage numerous projects simultaneously and be solutions oriented.
  • Experience collaborating with designers, photographers, creative services, or external vendors is a plus

Salary & Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000, commensurate with experience.
