The Child Youth and Emerging Adult Program (CYEAP) is currently seeking a full-time, temporary (until March 26, 2027) Registered Nurse to work in its Slaight Centre for Early Intervention Service (SCEIS). The SCEIS provides clinic and community-based assessment and treatment for young people, 14-35 years of age experiencing a primary psychotic disorder, often early stage; affective and non-affective primary psychotic disorders.
Responsibilities
This position will focus on functioning as a clinician case manager within an interprofessional practice team. You will provide patient-centred mental health and general nursing care; you will ensure the safety and security of patients and maintain standards of nursing practice as per your professional regulatory body. You will be expected to assess, plan, implement and evaluate clinical care utilizing the Slaight Centre Integrated Care Pathway, incorporating both measurement tools, to support measurement based care, as well as a standardized evidence-based model of care. The SCEIS implements Coordinated Specialty Care (CSC), using the NAVIGATE program, along with peer support work. Specifically, you will be providing the Individual Resiliency Training (IRT) component of this model of care. You will conduct mental status assessments, monitor patient responses to pharmaceutical and care interventions, document interventions and maintain effective, ongoing communication with clinical team members. You will liaise with other services across CAMH and with external community agencies. You will also be expected to work with patients from diverse populations, contribute to program development; provide education, support and supervision to students, and participate in research activities. You will have sound knowledge of psycho-social rehabilitation, crisis intervention, addiction issues, recovery model, groups, severe and persistent mental illness, especially schizophrenia; and primary mood disorders with psychosis. Your strengths will include an ability to engage patients and their significant others in care planning and treatment decisions on an ongoing basis. This position may require flexibility in work hours, possibly with some evening and weekend hours. This position is located at 1025 Queen Street West, but may require some traveling in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Qualifications
The successful candidate must be a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR). Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing a B.Sc.N and/or CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. A minimum of two years Psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions and specifically first episode psychosis is preferred. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable you to develop the Nurse-Patient relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem solving skills are required. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of aggressive behaviour. Strong knowledge of, and ability to apply principles of crisis intervention; and an understanding of psychiatric nursing as appropriate for this patient population is required. The ability to work with patients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary and knowledge of recovery principles is required. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
Salary Range: $41.15 – $58.98 per hour
