Job Overview:

The Applications Development team supports various vital B&H programs containing essential information from every department in the Company. Working within a UNIX environment, the development teams implement fixes and enhancements to Informix 4GL programs such as Gillani and Fourgen. The main goal is to ensure all programs are constantly functional and consistently allow for seamless transfers of information between all systems.

Under no supervision, the Applications Developer Level 3 performs major and complex bug fixes and can assume the lead role for comprehensive program enhancements to B&H’s internal systems. Possessing a high level programming knowledge, the Level 3 is an expert in all stages of development including, accurate problem documentation, consistent monitoring for unforeseen issues, and administering needed QA in the production stage. Additionally, a Level 3 understands all aspects and needed steps for long term project implementation aimed at improving the overall capabilities of any program. A wide level of guidance and recommendations are also provided to assist in facilitating the project’s accurate and timely completion

The Level 3 Developer also provides reports for any department within the Company. The Level 3 uses the Informix 4GL reporting tool to directly pull data from the system using its reporting capabilities.

Essential Responsibilities:

Creates code for Informix 4GL programs Java using UNIX and Perl shell scripting

Monitor Bugzilla to receive needed bug or project development requests

Gathers necessary requirements for advanced projects and drafts a plan of action

Interacts with IS as well as Non-IS departments to coordinate project details

Delivers enhancement recommendations and viable alternatives

Provide long-term guidance during all aspects of project development to ensure timely completion

Document all progress for essential department workflow coordination and reference purposes

Implement coding modifications and apply appropriate UNIX or Perl scripts consistent with B&H programming standards

Available for 24hr (6 day/week) support in event of system emergency and/or go live support Perform testing measures to determine system compatibility and code integrity

Provide UNIX based reports for system users

Preferred Education, Experience and Licenses:

5+ years experience programming with complex UNIX and Perl shell scripting

Exposure to Java coding and experience with C Functions

High utilization of Informix 4GL programs such as Fourgen or Gillani

Development tools such as Debugger, ISQL, etc.

Utilization of B&H Legacy system as well as Primavera

Experience with Optio software products

Experience with dynamic E-Commerce website and UNIX integration (e.g. pricing and inventory updates)

Experience with UNIX reporting tools

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

High level understanding of B&H project workflow procedures and processes

Knowledge of program development from a UNIX system

Proficient with database concepts and SQL, Informix syntax preferred

Knowledge of Web and UNIX integration concepts

Resourceful and efficient research skills

Articulate communicator and analytical thinker
