Job description
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and maintain secure, automated workflows for building, testing, scanning, packaging, releasing, and deploying software.
Create and improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or comparable tools.
Containerize applications and support their deployment to AWS and Kubernetes-based environments, including EKS and ECS where appropriate.
Use Helm or comparable packaging and deployment tools to make releases consistent, configurable, and repeatable across environments.
Build and improve observability using metrics, dashboards, logs, traces, health checks, and alerts with Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, and related tools.
Partner with application teams to troubleshoot issues across web applications, APIs, containers, Kubernetes workloads, databases, networking, storage, configuration, and cloud services.
Improve deployment reliability through automated testing, runtime validation, readiness and liveness checks, rollback strategies, release controls, and measurable service objectives.
Establish workload-level cost and utilization visibility for DSOP and AI-based environments, using tools such as OpenCost, Kubecost, AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Cost and Usage Reports, Prometheus, or equivalent technologies.
Identify and implement cost-efficiency improvements, including workload right-sizing, requests and limits tuning, demand-based autoscaling, scheduling improvements, idle-resource reduction, storage and data-transfer optimization, and appropriate log and metric retention.
Partner with AI/ML and data teams to improve the utilization and reliability of AI workloads, including GPU-aware scheduling, batch and real-time workload scaling, model-service observability, and capacity planning when applicable.
Contribute to infrastructure-as-code and GitOps workflows using Terraform, CloudFormation, Helm, Argo CD, Flux, or comparable technologies.
Partner with security and compliance teams to implement technical controls and produce evidence supporting NIST 800-171, CMMC, FedRAMP, the DoD Cloud Computing SRG, RMF, and applicable program requirements.
Develop internal tools and automation using TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Bash, Go, or similar languages.
Promote DevSecOps and software-engineering practices, including maintainable code, peer review, automated testing, secure defaults, accessibility, documentation, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with application, product, design, platform, security, data, and customer teams to translate mission needs into reliable technical solutions.
Evaluate new platform, observability, security, and cloud-efficiency technologies and introduce them where they provide measurable value.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Six or more years of professional experience in software engineering, DevSecOps, platform engineering, cloud engineering, site reliability engineering, or a combination of these disciplines.
Professional experience delivering or supporting production software in a Department of Defense, government, healthcare, or other regulated environment.
Active Secret security clearance or higher.
Hands-on experience developing, deploying, or supporting applications in AWS or another major public cloud.
Experience with Docker or comparable container technology and with ECS, EKS, Kubernetes, or another container-orchestration platform.
Experience creating, maintaining, or closely collaborating on CI/CD workflows using GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins, or a comparable platform.
Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language, such as TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Bash, or Go.
Experience with application or infrastructure monitoring using Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or equivalent technologies.
Experience with automated testing, code reviews, release practices, and modern software-development workflows.
Demonstrated ability to improve application or system performance, reliability, scalability, or operational efficiency.
Ability to diagnose issues across applications, APIs, containers, databases, networks, and cloud services.
Working familiarity with Helm or another application packaging and deployment approach.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work across application, infrastructure, security, product, and customer teams.
Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card and other access required for government information systems.
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)
Located near Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Experience operating or troubleshooting production Kubernetes environments, including workload scheduling, resource requests and limits, autoscaling, ingress, service discovery, RBAC, network policies, persistent storage, and cluster upgrades.
Experience with infrastructure-as-code or configuration-management technologies such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or Pulumi.
Experience with GitOps practices and tools such as Argo CD or Flux.
Experience with cloud financial management or FinOps practices, including OpenCost, Kubecost, AWS Cost and Usage Reports, chargeback or showback, unit-cost metrics, commitment planning, or workload right-sizing.
Experience operating AI/ML infrastructure, GPU-backed workloads, model-serving platforms, distributed data processing, or high-cost batch workloads.
Direct experience implementing or documenting controls for NIST 800-171, CMMC, FedRAMP, RMF, or the DoD Cloud Computing SRG.
Experience with GitLab pipelines, artifact repositories, software-composition analysis, container scanning, secrets scanning, or policy-as-code.
Familiarity with service-mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.
Linux systems administration and cloud networking experience.
