Job description

Duties

As a Bureau Approving Official within the Office of Science Quality and Integrity some of your specific duties will include:

Reviews and approves for release all types of technical interpretive information products, regardless of media, authored by USGS employees
Consults with scientific staff, supervisors, and managers to facilitate information product reviews by serving as a source of first recourse and final authority for issues related to the appropriate application of USGS Fundamental Science Practices and other policies related to USGS scientific information products
Provides advice regarding product deficiencies and makes recommendations on how to strengthen proposed or current work
Works with peers, the Executive Leadership Team, and the Fundamental Science Practices Advisory Council to improve USGS Fundamental Science Practices, ensure consistency in application of standards and increase efficiency in processing USGS information products

Are There Any Special Requirements For This Position?

Because this position requires travel for official business, the selectee will be required to apply for a charge card within 30 calendar days of appointment. Individuals who have delinquent account balances from a previous Government charge card will be required to satisfy their existing obligation before a new card can be issued.
A background investigation will be required for this position. Continued employment will be subject to the applicant’s successful completion of a background security investigation and favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet these requirements will be grounds for termination.

Qualifications

For GS-0401

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Biologist, all grade levels.

A. Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
