Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Supervises and coordinates the delivery of quality nursing care and treatments by nursing staff ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed, and treatment is administered in accordance with physician’s instructions and facility policy and procedures.
Reviews night shift assignment and adjusts as needed.
Makes rounds on a regular basis observing nursing care and visiting residents to ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed, and to determine their state of health and any particular needs they may have.
Documents assessments and any significant changes in the residents’ condition and communicates information to the physicians. Ensures that other nursing staff members, team members and families receive communication on these changes.
Notifies physician of changes in a resident’s medical condition and obtains orders as needed.
Assists the Inservice Coordinator in planning and organizing orientation and in-service training for unit staff members, and participates in guidance and educational programs.
Responsible for assisting in the orienting of licensed professional and non professional personnel to the Nursing Department, to acquaint them with functions of the Jewish Home, their job description/responsibilities and all Jewish Home policies and procedures and standard of the governing bodies.
Manages and control departmental resources keeping within budget guidelines.
Supervises private duty personnel in accordance with facility policies.
Responsible for promoting good inter-personal working relationships among nursing staff and all other staff members.
Assumes the role of charge nurse on a nursing unit on an as needed basis.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages four subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 15-20 employees in the nursing units. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this department. Also directly supervises two non-supervisory employees.

Responsibility for the overall supervision of the facility during the shift in the absence of administrative staff and other department heads and communicating promptly with administration and other department supervisors as necessary.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Registered Nurse with three to five years experience, preferably in Geriatrics. Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Must maintain current Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, residents, staff, family members and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must posses a valid Pennsylvania nursing license.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Conforms to established work hours and maintains an acceptable work attendance record.

Must be able to function independently.
