Job description

Duties

Provide technical guidance for inspections across the SOUTHCOM Area of Responsibility (AOR) to ensure all compiled inspection findings meet regulatory requirements, identifying root causes of deficiencies, and target fraud, waste, and abuse.
Oversee highly sensitive investigations and inquiries concerning character, suitability, and whistleblower reprisal allegations evaluating evidence and witness testimony to compile legally substantiated reports.
Serve as the Acting Command Inspector General representing the office with full authority to establish the agency’s position at general officer briefings; DoW, executive branch, and congressional inquiries, and high-level interagency meetings.
Perform personnel management and administrative oversight for a joint office to manage the IG program’s operating budget input; and executes strategic recruitment, performance evaluations, and internal control reviews.
Manage SOUTHCOM’s Intelligence Oversight program, blending systemic inspections, investigations of questionable intelligence activities, and training initiatives to guarantee all intelligence operations conform to federal executive orders.

Requirements

Conditions of employment
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
This position requires attendance and graduation from the Joint Inspector General Course.
