Job description
Essential Functions
Monitors and reports maintenance needs and safety concerns for City facilities, assets and public grounds.
Mows lawns, ballfields, and other open spaces, and performs other grounds keeping duties such as installing landscape materials, aerating, seeding, fertilizing, mulching, edging, removing/cutting weeds, trimming hedges/trees, blowing debris off walkways, watering, applying pesticides/herbicides, removing debris and trash, etc.
Assists with the installation and maintenance of irrigation systems.
Prepares athletic fields for play.
Assists in setting up and taking down equipment for various park and recreation programs and events; prepares facilities for recreational use.
Performs general facility and grounds maintenance work as required, including carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing work.
Inspects equipment for proper performance and safety; performs equipment maintenance and repair work as necessary. Exercises care and safety in the use of assigned equipment and vehicles.
Prepares and submits various logs, records and reports as required.
Operates and maintains vehicles, trucks, tractors/mowers, weed eaters, edger’s, blowers, chippers, etc.; uses mechanic’s tools, carpentry and masonry tools, landscaping tools, and various other hand and power tools.
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other department supervisors, other City personnel, co- workers, and the general public.
Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent
One (1) year experience in grounds keeping and general maintenance work
Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must possess a valid state CDL class “C” (or above) driver’s license within 6 months of hire
