Description
The Director of Finance provides leadership for the finance function, including financial planning, budgeting, reporting, audit coordination, compliance, cash flow oversight, and internal controls. Working closely with senior leadership, this individual will help support financial sustainability, operational effectiveness, and long-term planning.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the organization’s finance and accounting functions.
Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, forecasts, and management reports.
Develop, manage, and monitor annual budgets and forecasting processes.
Provide financial analysis, insights, and recommendations to support strategic planning and decision-making.
Oversee cash flow planning, financial performance monitoring, and resource allocation.
Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
Maintain and strengthen internal controls, financial processes, and risk management practices.
Lead the annual audit process and liaise with external auditors and other advisors.
Prepare financial reporting materials for senior leadership, and where applicable, board or committee review.
Support organizational planning through collaboration with leaders across departments.
Lead, mentor, and support the development of finance team members.
Requirements
Qualifications
Professional accounting designation such as CPA, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Progressive experience in finance and accounting, including experience in a leadership capacity.
Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, audit, compliance, and internal controls.
Experience developing financial processes, improving workflows, and supporting organizational planning.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and work effectively in a collaborative environment.
Experience in a nonprofit, charitable, public sector, or other mission-based organization is considered an asset.
Experience with financial systems, enterprise resource planning platforms, and reporting tools is considered an asset. Based on general knowledge.
