Position Summary
Congregation Beth Israel is seeking a collaborative, strategic, and service-oriented Director of Finance and Operations to join our senior leadership team.
This position provides leadership for the synagogue’s financial management, facilities, technology, and daily business operations. Working closely with the Executive Director, clergy, staff, Finance Committee, and Board of Trustees, the Director of Finance and Operations helps ensure the financial health, operational excellence, and long-term sustainability of one of the Southwest’s leading Reform congregations.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership
Lead the annual operating and capital budgeting process.
Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and budget-to-actual reports.
Monitor cash flow, investments, reserves, and financial performance.
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll coordination, banking relationships, and financial reporting.
Maintain strong internal controls and nonprofit accounting best practices.
Present financial information to senior leadership, the Finance Committee, and Board of Trustees.
Develop financial forecasts and support long-range strategic planning.
Operations & Facilities
Oversee all campus operations, facilities, maintenance, and security.
Manage vendor contracts and service agreements.
Develop preventative maintenance schedules and capital improvement plans.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, insurance requirements, and risk management policies.
Maintain emergency preparedness and business continuity plans.
Technology & Information Systems
Provide strategic oversight of synagogue technology systems.
Manage relationships with outside IT vendors and service providers.
Oversee business systems including:
ShulCloud
QuickBooks
Microsoft 365
Telecommunications
Security and access control systems
Audio/visual and livestream technology
Manage technology budgets and replacement schedules.
Leadership
Serve as a member of the senior leadership team.
Partner with clergy and department directors to achieve organizational goals.
Supervise finance, operations, facilities, and administrative staff.
Develop policies and procedures that improve organizational effectiveness.
Foster a collaborative, welcoming, and service-oriented culture.
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
5–8 years of progressively responsible experience in finance, accounting, operations, or nonprofit administration.
Experience in preparing and managing organizational budgets.
Strong understanding of financial reporting and internal controls.
Experience supervising staff and managing multiple priorities.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.
Preferred
Experience working in a nonprofit, educational institution, synagogue, or faith-based organization.
Experience with nonprofit accounting.
Familiarity with QuickBooks, ShulCloud (or similar CRM), Microsoft Office 365, and financial software.
CPA, MBA, or nonprofit financial management certification preferred but not required.

Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range: $90,000–$105,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
