Job description
General Studies Instructional Responsibilities
Teach several small-group General Studies lessons each day (e.g., reading, handwriting, spelling, grammar, and math).
Provide individualized instruction and answer students’ questions in reading, writing, and math.
Support students during the Montessori work cycle by guiding independent work and helping maintain a quiet, calm classroom environment.
Administer spelling quizzes and math fact drills.
Collaborate with the General Studies teacher to discuss student progress, write progress reports, and communicate with parents.
Work closely with the Lower Elementary teaching team to plan curriculum, build a positive classroom culture, and foster a warm, nurturing learning environment.
Use positive discipline practices to help students develop emotional awareness, self-regulation, and mutual respect.
Support students who need help building resilience or navigating challenges, encouraging a growth mindset.
Assist the lead teacher during whole-class lessons by providing support and gently redirecting students as needed to maintain focus.
Additional Classroom Responsibilities
Support classroom routines and transitions throughout the day, including arrival, lunch, and recess supervision.
Prepare and restock classroom materials and help maintain an organized learning environment.
Participate in weekly planning meetings with the lead teacher.
Assist with special events, create bulletin board displays, and support field trip planning.
Maintain open communication with the teaching team regarding student needs and classroom dynamics.
Qualifications
Experience teaching elementary students; Montessori experience preferred.
Strong understanding of child development and effective classroom management.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Experience with lesson planning, literacy, and math instruction.
Montessori training and private school experience are a plus but not required.
