Job description

What You Will Do

Comply with Environmental, Health and Safety expectations in all activities with the objective of achieving zero incidents
Proactively help identify Environmental, Health and Safety hazards and risks and collaborate with the appropriate resources to reduce risk of incidents
Develop strong relationships with constituents in Operations, Engineering, and Business teams
Perform benchmarking for asset health and asset performance related to pulp and bleaching operations and help develop and execute plans to drive improved performance
Analyze existing systems and develop strategies for improving safety, reliability, efficiency, asset uptime, quality and manufacturing cost while collaborating across facilities and support teams
Collaborate with remote monitoring resources to develop and optimize monitoring strategies for asset health and operation
Support facility outages from planning and scoping work through execution of the outages (typically on-site) and ensure adherence to good maintenance planning, execution and GP standards
Identify capital improvement opportunities and partner with sites and engineering teams on development, execution, commissioning and start-up of capital projects
Create value through technical support of multiple mill operations and being a valued resource in their day-to-day operations
Provide “urgent care”, both remotely and in-person, when needed to address operational upsets and problems in facilities
Actively support the Technical Development Program (TDP) for engineers and leaders in pulp and bleaching through mentoring, on-site training, training material development and board review assessment of trainees
Support the development and implementation of Design, Operate, and Maintain (DOM) standards for associated systems and assets for pulp and bleaching operations
Work with manufacturing sites to adhere to DOM standards

Proven demonstrated capability of leading through influence and working with and through large cross-functional teams
Personal technical knowledge and experience in pulp and bleaching manufacturing/operations with demonstrated capability to drive sustainable improvement in manufacturing results including safety, environmental performance and competitive position
Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to build strong relationships at all levels of an organization
Demonstrated process engineering capability with equipment sizing, troubleshooting and optimization and experience with heat and material balances/dynamic modeling
Strong financial and analytical skills, with ability to collect, distill, and analyze data to identify key insights
Ability to recognize potential issues, identify alternatives, and make recommendations
Demonstrated team/group facilitation experience – meetings, knowledge sharing, problem solving, etc.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology with a preference for Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Pulp and Paper Science.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the pulp & bleaching operations engineering
Knowledge of theoretical and practical aspects of the design, construction, operations and maintenance of assets in scope of responsibility.
Demonstrated experience in process improvement and process optimization
Demonstrated experience in projects and implementation of project activities.
Ability to travel up to 80% of the time, sometimes on short-notice

What Will Put You Ahead

10+ years of experience in the pulp & bleaching operations and engineering with experience in secondary fiber processing a plus
