Job description

Core Responsibilities

Analyze transportation, accessorial, and inventory data to identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements
Develop and maintain reporting (KPIs, dashboards, exception reports) to track performance and drive decision-making
Oversee freight claims and exception resolution, ensuring timely follow-up and recovery of costs
Monitor carrier performance, shipment trends, and routing strategies to optimize service and cost
Partner with production planning and purchasing to align material flow with demand and operational capacity
Identify root causes of delays, errors, and cost drivers, and implement corrective actions
Establish and maintain processes for shipment visibility, exception management, and communication
Proactively engage with operations to understand pain points and improve day-to-day execution
Transportation & Carrier Management
Own carrier selection and transportation strategy, ensuring the most cost-effective and reliable carriers are utilized across all lanes
Lead rate negotiations, contract management, and carrier relationships, driving measurable cost reductions and improved service performance
Monitor and manage carrier performance, adjusting carrier mix as needed to support operational and financial goals
Oversee shipment issues, claims, and service failures, identifying trends and implementing long-term corrective actions
Maintain awareness of market conditions, carrier rates, and lane performance, proactively adjusting transportation strategies to control cost and improve service

Experience & Education

Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience (5+ years in logistics or supply chain) may be considered in lieu of a degree
Minimum of 5+ years of logistics, transportation, or supply chain experience, including freight bill management and claims resolution
Demonstrated experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), with a strong understanding of system functionality and data utilization
Experience managing or supporting international shipments, including documentation and compliance requirements, preferred
Working knowledge of government regulations, including DOT, Hazmat, NAFTA, and IATA guidelines
Strong understanding of transportation tariffs, NMFC classifications, and freight rating structures
Proven experience in carrier management, rate negotiation, and cost control initiatives
