Job description

Responsibilities
Successful candidates will:

· Develop and apply statistical, computational, machine-learning, and deep-learning approaches to address important questions in evolutionary biology, genomics, and biomedicine.

· Design and implement advanced computational frameworks for analyzing large and complex genomic datasets across individuals, populations, and species.

· Take intellectual leadership of major research projects, including the formulation of research questions, development of analytical strategies, interpretation of results, and preparation of publications.

· Produce high-quality research publications and contribute to the development and dissemination of computational methods, software, and reproducible analytical resources.

· Contribute to ongoing collaborative and grant-funded projects within an iGEM faculty members’ research program.

· Initiate new research directions and progressively pursue extramural funding as a principal investigator, co-investigator, or key personnel, as appropriate to experience and career stage.

· Collaborate with faculty, research staff, postdoctoral fellows, and students across iGEM and Temple University.

· Participate in the co-mentoring and training of undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and other trainees.

· Contribute to the broader scientific activities of iGEM, including seminars, workshops, collaborative meetings and research-development initiatives.

These positions are primarily research focused. Opportunities may also be available to contribute to undergraduate or graduate teaching, workshops, and team-based training activities.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have:

· A Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, evolutionary biology, genomics, computer science or another relevant discipline.

· A strong record of research productivity appropriate to career stage.

· Research experience in one or more relevant areas, including molecular evolution, comparative genomics, phylogenetics, population genomics, functional genomics, statistical genetics, computational biology, or genomic data science.

· Demonstrated ability to design, implement, or apply advanced computational approaches to biological data.

· The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team.

· Excellent written and oral communication skills.

· A commitment to collaborative research and the mentoring and training of students and researchers.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications include:

· Postdoctoral or equivalent research experience.

· Experience developing statistical, machine-learning, or artificial-intelligence methods for evolutionary, genomic, or biomedical applications.

· Expertise in one or more of the following areas (but not limited to): molecular evolution, natural selection, phylogenomics, functional genomics, genetic disease, genome dynamics, protein evolution, or phylomedicine.

· Experience analyzing large-scale genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, or comparative datasets.

· Experience with scientific software development and/or high-performance computing.

· Evidence of intellectual leadership in collaborative research projects.

· Experience contributing to manuscripts, grant proposals, or externally funded research programs.

· Interest in progressively developing an independent research and extramural funding portfolio.
