Responsibilities
Provides and precisely documents nursing process components and relevant interventions for direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients in a timely manner.
Provides experienced care and patient education on disease prevention and restorative measures. Consistently provides direct and indirect comprehensive care services to complex patients, including, but not limited to, the administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care.
Performs skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and the initiation of peripheral venous access.
Observes, evaluates and expeditiously alters plan of care based on signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, and/or general physical condition.
Demonstrates advanced assessment skills, integrating appropriate data sources to assess the signs, symptoms, reactions, behaviors, or general appearance to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics.
Plans and implements individualized patient care in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams based on observations. Implements appropriate reporting, referrals and care in accordance with standardized procedures. Initiates emergency procedures when indicated.
Provides care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. Identifies patient’s readiness for learning and ability to follow directions/instructions and give consent.
Demonstrates knowledge and is able to identify and make special adjustments as required to the specific populations needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family and condition needs.
Identifies and assesses patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations. Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates effectiveness of intervention for patient
Demonstrates leadership and/or actively participates and supports one or more of the following activities areas: Shared Governance-Chair, MD/RN Collaborative-Chair, Preceptor, Mentor, TCAB, Committee, Project, participation in community service activities or other related.
Provides assistance to co-workers, new staff, temporary staff and students.
When assigned charge nurse responsibility, coordinates unit activity throughout the shift, including the authorization of incidental overtime, initiates chain of command as appropriate.
Participates in at least 50% of unit meetings and provides constructive input to assist in unit direction.
Functions as a change champion and agent and participates in departmental quality improvement activities.
Participates in the completion of required skills and competencies and performs all other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Educational Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred.
License/Certification Requirements:

California State RN License required
American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required for RNs floated to Medical, PICU, ICU, PCU, Tele, L&D, MFCU, PreOp PACU/OSU, ED and Cardiac.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required for RNs floated to NICU, L&D and Post Partum.
Pediatrics Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required for RNs floated to PEDs, NICU, ED, PreOp PACU/OSU.
(Expiration dates for ACLS, NRP and PALS certifications need be 60 days or more from the hire date).
For RN III: Specialty certification is required upon hire.
Experience Requirements:

Minimum 3 years recent acute RN experience in specialty. Note: (minimum 2 years recent acute RN experience for RN II)
Experience in two or more of the Career Float Pool specialty clusters listed above.
Per Diem staff must consistently meet the following work requirements:

A minimum of 2 days per pay period to include 3 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
Per Diem staff working 144 or more hours per time schedule will work a minimum of four (4) weekend shifts per schedule.
Be available to work two (2) of the six national holidays one must include Christmas or New Year’s. Holiday commitments will include the holiday eves as the day.
Be available to rotate shifts as needed.
