Job description
What You’ll Do:
Support Student Success
Provide individual and group counseling tailored to the needs of students
Monitor attendance and academic progress, and conduct home visits or work site check-ins as needed
Facilitate student advisory groups that foster connection, reflection, and growth
Case Management & Advocacy
Conduct intake interviews and assessments for new students
Address out-of-school issues with compassion and appropriate referrals for resources like shelter, childcare, and mental health services
Provide crisis intervention and conflict mediation to help students stay on track
Goal-Setting & Future Planning
Assist students in developing and implementing individual academic and post-secondary goal plans
Partner with the Internship Coordinator and Guidance Counselor to support career development, college planning, and financial aid guidance
Engage families to ensure they are active partners in student progress and success
Documentation & Collaboration
Maintain accurate records and program documentation
Collaborate with school staff and attend staff meetings, retreats, proms, award ceremonies, and graduation
Be a visible, trusted presence on campus and a consistent source of support
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Education, Social Work, or a related field; OR Associate’s degree in related field with two (2) years of relevant experience
Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills
Deep understanding of youth development and strength-based practices
Experience working with at-risk youth and families, preferably within NYC schools
Skilled in group facilitation, crisis management, and building relationships
Passion for being a team player in an educational setting
Commitment to the mission, values, and vision of Liberation Diploma Plus High School
