Job description
Role & Responsibilities
Communicate with clients and provide status reports
Work closely with external attorneys on legal projects
Represent clients in litigation and other legal proceedings
Advise clients on legal matters
Research and draft legal analysis, op-eds, and articles on relevant matters/issues
Report to the Executive Director
Assist in administrative operations of the organization
Assist with grant writing and donor relations
Qualifications
JD from an accredited law school with a strong academic record
Admitted to practice in New York State, and/or other U.S. states
At least 4 years of practice experience, ideally with some litigation experience
Experience working in the nonprofit sector (preferred but not required)
Areas of interest include: civil and human rights law, anti-discrimination law, First Amendment, and defamation law
Legal project management experience
Excellent communication, public speaking, and organizational skills
Ability to integrate into a fast-paced and team-oriented environment
Demonstrated collaboration skills across different locations
Strong legal research, document drafting, and writing skills
Comfort with technology, and willingness to learn new platforms and systems
All candidates must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment
